Mykaela Worthem Bilingual Music Guide
This guide is a resource for music students who are traveling to a Spanish- speaking country. It will provide them with translations regarding instruments, objects and locations, phrases, and cultural information they can use for their music-related activities in various Spanish-speaking countries.
The guide is divided into two sections: the rst is ideal for Spanish-speaking beginners who are looking for translations of words to help them communicate.
The second part will require a little more skill on forming sentences, grammar, and pronunciation of Spanish letters. Students with a history with Spanish can combine their prior knowledge with what this guide provides to be able to converse e ectively.

Section 1 Musical instruments– One thing that you will need to know when traveling to a Spanish-speaking country is how the instruments are pronounced. Most have a translation, while some adopt the English version of the word or look similar in spelling but di er in pronunciation. Musical objects- P laying an instrument sometimes required more than just an instrument. These are items that are familiar to a musician and maybe something that may be required when playing. Spanish music styles & Spanish instruments- These are instruments and styles of music, this is a part of the culture. In this part, these elements will be described so that you will be able to identify the instruments and music styles. Locations- Y ou may want to ask someone where something is, like a music store, performance hall, or venue. Variations on instruments- some instruments have more speci c speci cations. For example, the saxophone (el saxofón) has three common variations. In order to communicate these di erences, another word can be added to el saxofón: Alto saxophone—– saxofón alto Tenor saxophone— saxofón tenor Soprano saxophone—- saxofón soprano
Another variation is for a bass version of an instrument. For this example I will be using the clarinet (el clarinete) Bass clarinet —- clarineta bajo If you are performing while on your trip, there are many things that you will need to know in order to e ectively communicate with other musicians. In this section of the guide, you will be provided with action works and musical terms that will be pertinent to you in order to perform.
