Opening August 2016 Position Announcement About GEO International High School: The GEO International High School (GIHS), opening in August of 2016, will be specifically tailored to meet the unique needs of high school-aged new English Learners and their families. GISH will serve a Multilanguage community targeting students that have lived in the United States for 4 years or less. In the context of a rigorous academic environment, these students will experience an innovative project-based learning curriculum designed to enhance language acquisition, acquire deeper knowledge, collaboration, and critical thinking skills. Job Goal: • To help students acquire information and skills that will contribute to their development into mature, able, and responsible individuals. Performance Responsibilities: • Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and times designated. • Designs and administers carefully planned assessment tools to adequately measure the extent to which learning objectives have been in response to project work and literacy assignments. • Plans a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and skill levels of the students. • Creates a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students. • Prepares for assigned classes and provides written evidence of preparation upon the request of immediate superior. • Through the establishment of curriculum goals, guides the learning process and develops clear objectives to meet those goals. • Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with the physical limitation of the location provided and consistent with the needs and skills levels of the individuals or student groups involved. • Strives to implement, by instruction and action, the school’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives. • Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities. • Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records and their confidentiality as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation. • Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student conduct for the classroom and school related activities as set forth by the Student Code of Conduct. • Makes reasonable provisions for being available for scheduled students and conferences with parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day. • Strives to maintain and improve professional competence. • Acts in accordance with the by-laws and policies as set forth by the School/Council/Warren County Board of Education, Kentucky Revised Statutes and Kentucky Administrative Regulations, and applicable Federal law and regulations. • Carries out instructional duties as prescribed in the Warren County Board of Education policies. • Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal in accordance with the best interest of the school, students, and District. Terms of Employment: Basic teacher contract is for 9-1/4 months per year with salary to be set by the District’s Salary Schedule as approved by the Board of Education. Additional duties may be assigned upon the recommendation of the principal and approved by the Superintendent. Bowling Green, its principal city, is about a 2 hour drive from Louisville (114 miles south) and one hour from Nashville (60 miles north). BRADD consists of ten counties: Allen, Barren, Butler, Edmonson, Hart, Logan, Metcalfe, Monroe, Simpson and Warren. • Overall, the district is sparsely populated at 72.08 persons per square mile compared to the state average of about 109.23 persons per square mile (year 2010). • Less than 15% the size of the district, Warren County accounts for more than 40% of the district population, and is the most dynamic in terms of growth, population density, and development trends. • During the period 2000-2010, the district has registered an overall growth of about 11.4%, varying from a minimal 0.6% in Metcalfe County to about 23% in Warren County. • Across the district, the middle range of the population age (35 to 60 years) and the elderly (85 years and over) constitute the majority of growth throughout the region. Warren and Allen Counties have significant growths in their younger workforce populations as well.
