But that’s only the beginning of the story. Williams, in his early days, wrote verse for $5, $7, or $10 fees. One of his biggest sales had netted him $35, so when he was offered $50 from A1 Dubin for a verse titled "Among My Souvenirs,” he sold it on the double. Dubin expected to put the lyrics to music, but after years had passed he hadn’t found time to write the music, he sold it to a song writer named Edgar Leslie for $150. Leslie took time to put the lyrics to notes and came up with the hit it was des tined to be.
