Horses that are not sound are ineligible for an award. **Upon completion of both West and East Coast Championships the Officials will compare results from the two Best Young Horse Classes (four horses in total) and determine the Overall Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Best Young Horse. The Overall Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion will be announced at the completion of the East Coast portion of the Championships. Overall Grand and Reserve Grand will not receive additional USEF points. All animals of yearling status and older must be shown in a . The International Hunter Futurity is a competition for young horses. The purpose of the program is to promote interest in and enthusiasm for breeding and showing quality hunters. The International Hunter Futurity provides a financially rewarding program with the highest money prizes ever offered in the hunter ring. The IHF events are open to horses three years of age in 2009, which were sired by a nominated stallion and have maintained their eli- gibility according to IHF Special Conditions. Three classes are offered for the three year old performance section, two over fences and one under saddle. The IHF Challenge Series, line classes for yearlings, two year olds and three year olds, was designed to promote hunter breeding and to give hunter breeders an opportunity to showcase their young stock. The IHF Sweepstakes was designed to showcase four year olds which were previously eligible to compete in the IHF three year old program. Three classes, two over fences and one under saddle, are offered for the four year olds. All IHF events are open only to horses which are by nominated stallions and which have maintained their eligibility according to the IHF rules. THE INTERNATIONAL HUNTER FUTURITY OVER FENCES In the over fences class, horses shall demonstrate an even hunting pace, style of , manners and way of moving. All horses must be serviceably sound and will be jogged. To be shown over a course of approximately eight fences, commonly found in hunter competi- tions. Fences approximately 2’9" in height. THE INTERNATIONAL HUNTER FUTURITY UNDER SADDLE Hunters under saddle are to be shown at a walk, trot and canter, both ways of the ring. Light contact with the horse’s mouth is required. Horses should be obedient, alert, responsive, and move freely. To be judged on performance, manners, way of moving and soundness. To compete in the under saddle class, it is not necessary to compete over fences. THE INTERNATIONAL HUNTER FUTURITY OVER FENCES - CONFORMATION In this class, performance (even hunting pace, style of jumping, manners and way of moving) shall count 75% and conformation, substance and suitability to become a hunter shall count 25%. Fences approximately 2’9" in height. Horses will be jogged for soundness. THE INTERNATIONAL HUNTER FUTURITY HUNTER BREEDING CHALLENGE SERIES The IHF Challenge Series is open to nominated yearlings, two year olds and three year olds which have maintained their eligibility ac- cording to the Challenge Series rules and special conditions.
