Musicians Take Note: Working musicians and especially songwriters are enjoying the wonderful selection of high-quality handheld recording devices (from Edirol, M-Audio and others) that have been showing up in the music stores and even though the first generation were costing up to $500, the latest batch have become smaller, cheaper and full of extra goodies. The Zoom recorder was a pioneer in this niche market and their latest model, the Q3, offers a video camera as well. It's currently on special at Long & McQuade for less than $250. For closer to $150, consumer electronics giant Sanyo have released a portable sound recorder as part of their Xacti line, and it is thinner and lighter than a small cell phone - and it is capable of capturing sound with near CD quality AIF 44.1 files. The Xacti records in a variety of mp3 resolutions as well as AIF, the professional audio standard. It has a long-lasting battery It has no charger and is charged through a USB port and shows up on your computer desktop like a USB key or and external hard . You can even store other non-audio files on it. It has inputs for external microphones and line input and lots of other goodies like an FM radio that you can set to record with a timer. More at www. sanyo.com/soundrecorder. Nominees have been announced for the 2010 Blues Blast Music Awards: The 2010 Blues Blast Music Awards are presented by Blues Blast Magazine.
