Jnanpith Award winner and recipient of the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, Girish Karnad was one of the most noted playwrights in India. DLB 9 Pradeep Choubey Renowned Hindi Poet Renowned Hindi poet Pradeep Choubey passes away at 70 of cardiac arrest The poet was younger brother of celebrated satirist and poet Shail Chaturvedi. Born on August 26, 1949 in Maharashtra's Chandrapur district, Choubey shifted to Gwalior. DLB 10 Veteran Lady Rama Sengupta Paul Mountaineer Rama Sengupta Paul (66), the Veteran lady mountaineer, has passed away in Kolkata, West Bengal. She led the first successful all-women expedition to Kedarnath Dome in Garhwal Himalaya which was organized by city-based Himalayan Association to commemorate the International Year of Women in 1975. Samant hero, Captain Veteran commander of Indian submarine in 1971 Bangladesh war, captain M N Samant, died of a cardiac arrest . He was conferred with Maha Vir Chakra for his acts of conspicuous gallantry in the presence of the enemy. Post-war, Samant had served as the first chief of staff of the Bangladesh Navy. In 2017, she received the Jnanpith Award for her contribution to Indian literature.
