Chicago Executive Airport named Reliever Airport of the Year Chicago Executive Airport (CEA) received some well-earned recognition at the Illinois Aviation Conference held May 15 in Moline, Illinois. At the event, Dr. Susan Shea, the Director of Aeronautics for the Illinois Department of Transportation, named CEA the Reliever Airport of the Year. A reliever airport like Chicago Executive serves as a landing station for planes stuck in the air during certain emergency situations, such as inclement weather. “This award speaks to the efforts of the people here at CEA who work hard every day to make this the best and safest possible airport,” said Airport Manager Dennis Rouleau. “It also speaks to the commitment and cooperation of the folks in Prospect Heights and Wheeling. This is truly a community award.” The award was based on the airport staff’s cooperation with IDOT, adherence to federal guidelines, safety record, airport improvements, involvement with the aviation and local communities and overall maintenance performance. As Rouleau put it, the award is another indication that CEA is on the right track.
