WWW.NORTHEASTCONFERENCE.ORG • WWW.NECFRONTROW.COM • Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, Google+: @NECSports Head Coach Anthony Latina - Second Season (6-28) Anthony Latina begins his second season as head coach at Sacred Heart University. Latina is just the third head coach in SHU program history, suc- ceeding Dave Bike who retired in 2013 after 35 seasons at the helm.

In his first season as head coach, the Pioneers finished with a 5-26 record. Phil Gaetano won his second consecutive NEC Scholar Athlete of the Year for the winter season, while De’Von Barnett was chosen to the NEC All-Rookie team.

Latina took over the reins of the program after spending eight seasons as an assistant under Head Coach Dave Bike. He joined coach Bike’s staff in 2005-06 after serving as assistant coach the previous six seasons at Central Connecticut State University.

Since his arrival at SHU in 2005, the Pioneers have made five Northeast Confer- ence Tournament appearances including two trips to the NEC Championship game (2007, 2008). Latina helped guide the Pioneers to their best stretch of basketball since making the move to Division I (1999-00), posting 79 wins, including 52 NEC victories, from 2005 through 2010.

With Latina’s arrival in 2005-06, the Pioneers have had six players earn All-Northeast Conference honors: (Kib- we Trim - 2006, Jarrid Frye - 2006, 2007, Joe Henley - 2009, Drew Shubik - 2008, Corey Hassan - 2010, Shane Gibson - 2012, 2013), three NEC All-Rookie team picks (Chauncey Hardy - 2007, Chris Evans - 2011, DeVon Barnett - 2014) and a NEC Most Improved Player award winner (Liam Potter - 2010).

During his time at CCSU, Latina helped guide the Blue Devils to two NCAA Tournament appearances, and three trips to the Northeast Conference title game. His duties at Central included recruiting and scouting opponents, as well as individual player development. He was part of the staff that helped produce the first-ever NBA draft pick from CCSU, , who was taken in the second round by the Sacramento Kings in 2002.

Prior to joining Central Connecticut’s staff, Latina worked for four years as an assistant coach at Division II UMass-Lowell.

Latina was a four-year starter and two-year captain as a point guard at Brandeis University. He was part of the 1991-92 squad that won the ECAC Championship. An honor’s student in the classroom, Latina also received the Athletic Director’s Award and Stein Attitude and Dedication to Basketball Award at Brandeis. He earned his undergraduate degree in history and American Studies from Brandeis and his Master’s in Education from UMa- ss-Lowell.

The Connecticut native was a captain of the 1990-91 Connecticut State Championship team at South Catholic High School under legendary coach Joe Reilly.

Latina and his wife Jodi and children, Luke and Zoe, reside in Wethersfield, CT.
