MONDAY, 21 NOVEMBER, 2016 LESSONS LEARNED THIS WEEKEND YEARLING TRADE KICKS by John Berry As Europe's autumn sales' season continues its relentless OFF TATTS DECEMBER march, amid the plethora of high prices and fascinating tales it is easy to overlook just how great an era is ending with the dispersal of the Wildensteins' bloodstock. The Goffs November Sale in Ireland last week was a huge event with 1,753 lots in the catalogue, but it would still have been a huge event even if it had only contained lot 1431: the Wildensteins' 2012 G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains heroine Beauty Parlour (GB) (Deep Impact {Jpn}). This 7-year-old celebrity comes from the immediate family of the great Might And Power (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}) and was sold, believed to be in foal to Kingman (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), for i1.6-million. The Wildensteins' impact on the racing and breeding world has been massive, so it almost went without saying that we wouldn't have to wait long until a feature race somewhere in the world would be won by one of their proteges. When Jet Setting (Ire) (Fast Company {Ire}) got the better of Cartier Horse Of The Year Minding (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in this year's G1 Tattersalls Irish 1000 Guineas, however, it was a rather bittersweet moment for Kelly, as he had sold Mean Lae (Ire) (Johannesburg), the dam of Jet Setting, to a colleague of his two years previously. Kelly isn't one to dwell on these things, though, having had his fair share of luck in the ring over the years, and he is very much looking forward to offering a smart, 18-strong draft of foals at the Tattersalls December Foal Sale in Newmarket this week, a sale that has been especially kind Peter Kelly (right) | Amy Lynam to the young breeder in the past.
