CNW COMPETITION MATTERS – Nathan Dennis

Crowe Horwath Female Competition Grand Final Wynyard will take on Latrobe in this Sunday’s Crowe Horwath Female Competition Grand Final, to be played at Wynyard Showgrounds from 3.30 pm. The Bluebelles have been the dominant team of 2015/16, unbeaten since Round 1, while Latrobe’s young outfit have peaked at the right time, knocking off the Burnie Hurricanes in last weekend’s Preliminary Final. Live scores from the game will be available on the Cricket North West website via this link –

Live Scores - Crowe Horwath Female Competition Grand Final

Cricket North West wishes clubs, players and umpires the best of luck for Sunday’s game.

National Indigenous Cricket Championships

A number of Cricket North West players recently participated in the National Indigenous Cricket Championships in Alice Springs. Latrobe’s Callan Morse captained the Tasmanian men’s team, which also featured Corey Briggs (Ulverstone), Jackson Saggers (Devonport) and Rhys French (Latrobe). Additional North West representation came via Irishtown’s Ben Revell, while Riana’s Guy Grey returned as coach. The Tasmanian team won two games to finish in fifth place.

Burnie Hurricanes duo Tayla Wigg and Cara Watkins participated in the women’s division, representing Queensland (as does not yet field a team). The Queensland team finished in fourth place, winning one of their four games.

CNW players enjoyed success at the tournament, with Callan Morse securing a place in the Team of the Championships, while Tayla Wigg was selected in a Female Development Squad. CNW Umpire Scott Pearce also had an outstanding carnival, resulting in his selection to officiate in the Men’s Grand Final between New South Wales and Queensland.

Well done to all.

Player Eligibility – Under-17 & Under-15 Finals

We have one round remaining in the Commonwealth Bank Under-17 and Under-15 rosters. Accordingly, all clubs should be aware of the player eligibility rules for the finals. In the Under-17 competition a player must have participated in 50% of all started One-Day matches in order to be eligible to play finals cricket (approximately 6 games, depending on washouts), while in the Under- 15s a player must have participated in 50% of all started One-Day and T20 matches to qualify (approximately 7 games, depending on washouts).

Eligibility information will be sent out to clubs next week. However, you can access a report on the Cricket North West website which show you how many games each player has played in a given grade. Go to www.cricketnorthwest.com.au, then navigate to the “Match Centre”, and scroll down to “Players – No. of matches in the current season”. Once you’ve clicked on that link you can select the grade and the date range (select from October 1, 2015 to February 18, 2016) and click “Go”. You can then click on the “Club” column in the table to sort all the players by club, making it easier to see how many matches each player has participated in. This may help with team selections for the final round.

Sheffield Second Grade

As you may be aware, Sheffield CC have been forced to forfeit their final two Tasfreight 2nd Grade matches. The club has lost up to 8 regular 1st Grade players to injury or unavailability as the season has progressed, requiring the elevation of a number of 2nd Grade players. With no Under-17 team this season, the club had limited options to replace players.

Their Round 16 & 17 opponents, the Burnie Hurricanes and Latrobe will receive points equal to the maximum earned by any other team in the round, as per CNW rules.

First and Second Grade Finals Eligibility

With only three days remaining in the 1st and 2nd Grade roster seasons, clubs are reminded of the rules relating to player eligibility for the finals.

To be eligible for the 1st Grade and 2nd Grade finals a player must have been registered prior to January 31 and played a minimum of four days with their club in the current season.

In addition, players cannot participate in the 2nd Grade finals if they have played at least 75% (rounded up) of their matches in 1st Grade in the current season. Exceptions are granted if both the 1st and 2nd Grade teams are playing in the Semi-Finals and/or Grand Finals.

An update on eligibility will be provided before next week’s final round of matches.

MyCricket – Under-15s and Under-17s

With the junior finals rapidly approaching, I am seeking the co-operation of clubs to enter data in MyCricket as soon as possible after games. This will help me to update ladders and statistics, along with confirming finals matches early in the week. It would be greatly appreciated if final round Under-17 and Under-15 match results and player scores could be entered this Sunday evening (21st February), or by 10.00 am Monday morning.

MyCricket – 1st & 2nd Grade

Clubs are reminded to enter match results and player scores in MyCricket after each day of 1st and 2nd Grade games. There are options to select for matches and/or innings in progress. This information is required for media reporting, the Hursey Seafoods MVP award, and will be used to update a “Live Ladder” after Day 1 of the final round matches (to assist those trying to work out what they need to do to climb a position on the ladder).

Statewide T20 Semi-Final

Ulverstone will be representing Cricket North West in a Men’s Statewide T20 Semi-Final this Sunday. They will playing Cricket North team Riverside at Riverside from 1.00 pm. Ulverstone is asked to provide Live Scores from the game to assist with media reporting.

The winner of this match will take on STCA team Wellington in the Grand Final, to be played in Hobart on Sunday March 6.

Total Cricket Scorer – Live Scores

There were some problems with Live Scores being visible on the Total Cricket Scorer website last weekend. Score summaries were being displayed, but an error message appeared when the “scorecard” link was clicked, so no individual player scores were visible. For your information the scorecards were still visible on the TCS Live Scores mobile app, available through the iTunes or Google Play stores. To view scores in the app, set your preferences to Country = Australia, Region = CRICKET NORTH WEST, Score Type = Club Scores.

I have contacted Total Cricket Scorer, and they indicated that the problem was caused by a server issue, and they are working to fix things as soon as possible.

If the problems continue this weekend, I ask that home 1st Grade scorers email me ([email protected]) a copy of the scorecard, or send it via a message to the Cricket North West Facebook page (www.facebook.com/cricketnorthwest). Full scorecards are required for The Advocate and Examiner newspapers.

To save a copy of the scorecard for emailing, click on the “Match” tab in Total Cricket Scorer, then click on “Print Scorecard”. Here you can select “Save As” to save a copy to the laptop’s hard drive, which you can then attach to an email or Facebook message.

Finals Venues

The Cricket North West Board have confirmed the 1st and 2nd Grade Grand Final venues for 2015/16. The annual rotation will continue, with Devonport Oval to host the CNW 1st Grade Grand Final, while the Tasfreight 2nd Grade Grand Final will be played at West Park Oval. Based on current ladders UCI Oval and Latrobe Recreation Ground will be the other two venues to host 1st or 2nd Grade Semi- Finals.

In junior competitions every effort is made to schedule all finals matches on turf pitches, at the home ground of the highest qualifiers in the Under-17 and Under-15 age-groups. Where there is a clash, preference is given to the Under-17s, with Under-15 games scheduled at the opposition team’s turf ground. If that is not possible, as a last resort we would look at playing at the highest qualifier’s home synthetic pitch venue.

Hitting Heart Disease for 6

As you would be aware, a charity cricket match is being organised to honour and celebrate the life of Lachlan Berwick, a much-loved Devonport CC junior player and North West Lightning Under-16 team member. Along with celebrating Lachlan’s life, the match will raise funds for the Hitting Heart Disease for 6 charity, and will be held at Devonport Oval on Wednesday March 9 from 6.00 pm.

Current Tasmanian Tigers , Tom Triffitt and will be playing in the match, along with recently-retired Tiger . James Faulkner has also donated signed Australian One-Day, Test and T20 shirts to be auctioned at the game.

We hope to see plenty of coastal cricket people turn out to support this important cause on March 9. For more information visit the Hitting Heart Disease for 6 Facebook page.

Hitting Heart Disease for 6 (continued)

Thanks to clubs who recently supported another Hitting Heart Disease for 6 fundraiser, making donations for every four or six hit on the weekend of February 5 and 6. The Circular Head Colts, Wynyard CC and Ulverstone District CC participated in this initiative, organised by Turners Beach Cricket Club.

Venue Change – Commonwealth Bank Under-13s

Latrobe CC have informed me of a venue changes for this Sunday’s Commonwealth Bank Under-13 match between Latrobe Blue and Sheffield. A charity match is being played at Perkins Park, meaning the match will be transferred to another venue, see below:

Sunday February 21 – Round 14 Latrobe Blue v Sheffield – to be played at Latrobe Rec No. 2

Latrobe Rec No. 2 is Latrobe CC’s training ground, located behind the main grandstand at Latrobe Recreation Ground. Players, parents and officials can access the ground via the Gilbert Street entrance adjacent to the tennis courts.

Clubs are asked to ensure players, parents and officials are informed of this change. The roster has been amended in MyCricket.

Seniors Cricket Tasmania – Over-50’s Cricket

Seniors Cricket Tasmania is keen to hear from any current or former Cricket North West players or officials over the age of 50 who may be interested in playing in a semi-formal roster from next season. SCT is hoping to establish a few teams across the North West Coast to play regular games in the region, and possibly around the state.

We’d love to see some of our former greats back out on the field, potentially going on to represent Tasmania in the Over-60s National Championships. This season’s championships were played in Hobart, with previous events staged around Australia.

Why not approach a group of your former team-mates to dust off the whites and get involved?

For more information please contact SCT’s North West representative Trevor Stephens on 0418 115 404.

An Evening with Kerry O’Keeffe at Latrobe Cricket Club

Latrobe Cricket Club and Ashdown Painting have organised an evening with former Australian Test Player and beloved ABC Commentator Kerry O’Keeffe. Kerry will be bringing his stories, opinions and unmistakable infectious laughter to Latrobe on Saturday March 5.

The function will be held in Latrobe Football Club from 7.00 pm. Tickets are current selling fast, priced at $40 per person, while tables of 10 are also available. A full bar will be available and a light supper provided. Please contact LCC President Paul Dickson (0418 382 537) to reserve tickets, as door sales may be limited due to strong demand.

This is a great opportunity to hear from one of the real characters of Australian cricket!

MyCricket How-To Videos

Cricket Australia have produced a series of instructional videos on using the key features in MyCricket. The videos have been posted on the MyCricket YouTube Channel.

The full list of videos include:

- Enter Match Result - Entering Player Scores - Hiding & Batting Stats - Registering Or Adding A New Player - Selecting Teams - Users - Update your MyCricket Participant Details

These videos should supplement the training I have provided and/or offered club officials and volunteers. The more people we have using MyCricket the easier things become, as the workload for registering players, selecting teams, entering match results and player scores can be shared between multiple users. Please contact me if you need help setting someone up with a MyCricket login.
