(AP Photo/John Autey) the par-5 18th hole. Knowing Sauers put his second shot into the lake fronting the green, Goydos just had to get the ball on the putting surface. Goydos, who shot a tourna- ment-record 60 Saturday, would normally hit a 5-iron, but with a downhill lie and knowing it was safe behind the green, he pulled out his 4-iron and hit it thin. “I thought it’d carry by more than it did, that may have been because of the heavier air,” he said. “The 4-iron was the right club to hit. It just didn’t quite catch.” The ball cleared the hazard by less than a yard and bounced to the back of the green. Two putts later, Goydos was a PGA Champions Tour winner for the first time this year and fifth time overall. It is his third top-10 in 16 events this season. “They’re all special, but the last one always seems to be the most special,” said Goydos, who made his tour debut at this event in 2014. Looking at 191 yards to the front of the green and about seven more to the hole, Sauers, who hit a tour-record 53 of 54 greens in regulation, went with a familiar club. “Hit 5-iron C M previous in regulation and so it Y K was plenty of club,” he said. “I just kind of came out of it a little bit.” It is the second playoff Sauers lost this year. He’s 0-4 in his career. Kevin Sutherland shot 64 to tie for third with Steve Stricker (66) and Brandt Jobe (67), two shots back. Scott Verplank was three back after a 66. Wes Short, Jr. shot a 10-under 62, and was among a quartet of golfers fin- ishing four shots back. That group included Kenny Perry, a co-leader with Goydos and Sauers entering the day. He shot 70. Eleven players were within three shots beginning the round and 16 within four on a course known for its low scores thanks to wide fairways and soft, but fast, greens. This is the twenty-second year of the Annual in the book format. This year we’re looking at realignment, and all the conse- quences; more than half of the teams in our league have changed addresses. There are new rivalries and new configurations, and thus new story lines for our magazine. Our most senior manager brings us a great historical overview of our previous divi- sions and pennant races – how we came to our present arrangement. For our veteran managers, it’s a walk down memory lane; for our newer friends, it’s evidence of the depth and strength of our league. A brief apology: time and gaps in knowledge have forced us to skip over the playoff descriptions this year. There were two epic series that went seven games, both men- tioned in Year in Review articles: Melrose came within one key pitch of going to the World Series instead of Munich; and Maracaibo took Las Vegas in seven games before bowing to the Marauders.

More Top Finishes for Tour Edge on the PGA Tour Champions this week at the 3M Championship Fifteen Tour Edge clubs were in play this week at the 3M Championship on the PGA Tour Champions, leading to a 5th place finish by Exotics CBX staff player Tim Petrovic, as well as a 10th and 13th place finish by Exotics CBX hybrid staff players Tom Lehman and Duffy Waldorf, respectively. Over 40 different PGA Tour Champions professionals have put over 220 Exotics CBX clubs into play this season, propelling the on-fire Tour Edge brand to three victories, eight runner-up finishes, 21 Top 5 and 37 Top 10 finishes in only 17 events played. Petrovic played three Exotics CBX clubs in the Top 5 finish in Minnesota: an Exotics CBX 3-wood, 5-wood and 19-degree Exotics CBX Iron-Wood. Petrovic has three runner-up finishes this season with this club setup and has earned four Top 10 finishes and nine Top 25 finishes overall. This has helped him to currently rank 8th in the 2018 Charles Schwab standings with $997,713 earned on the year. Lehman earned his 7th Top 10 finish of the year at the hometown 3M Championship with an 18-degree Exotics CBX hybrid with a Project X HZRDUS Black 105 shaft. He ranks 12th on the money list with $703,847 earned this season. Only Exotics staffer Scott McCarron out ranks these two players in the Exotics CBX staff rankings. McCarron was off this week, but still sits in 5th place in the Charles Schwab Cup standings with $1.2 million earned.
