http://www.roostersmarket.ca/ [email protected] 2016/17 Leisure Guide 11 Welcome to the Magrath & District Leisure Guide

The Magrath and District Recreation Committee welcomes you to its latest Leisure Guide for the years 2016 and 2017. An insert will be sent out next spring with updates for 2017.

The purposes of the Leisure Guide are to help Magrath area residents and potential residents become aware of the many leisure activities available in the Magrath area, find out how to get involved in the community, and learn how to access services. If the group or event you are involved with is not represented in this guide, email [email protected] so we can get your information for our next publication.

The Recreation Committee also hosts semi-annual Mass Registration Nights to provide opportunities for community groups to promote their organizations and to register participants and for residents to “shop” the options and register for all their activities in one place.

The next Mass Registration Night is scheduled for Wednesday, September 7, 2016 5 - 8 p.m. at the Garth Veale Arena.

In creating this guide, we are deeply impressed to see just how many people volunteer their time to make our community better. We applaud your service. It is the people who make Magrath great!

Sincerely,

The Leisure Guide Committee Kristyn Barfuss, Brenda Beck, Becky Doig, Trevor Millward and Wayne Quinton

Under the direction of The Magrath and District Recreation Committee Becky Doig (Chair), Kristyn Barfuss (Vice Chair), Trevor Millward (Secretary), Wayne Quinton (Treasurer), Brenda Beck ( Council Rep), Mike Loose (County Council Rep), Byrne Cook, Brad Sabey, Janae Smith and Carma Thomson (Directors)

We provide a competitive swimming experience for children 7 to 17 years of age in the Magrath area. We emphasize all four competitive strokes--freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butter- fly and promote team unity as well as personal best performances. We swim every weekday morning and attend a total of 3 Saturday swim meets each summer. Our swimmers have been very successful in local meets and some have even medaled at Southern Alberta Sum- mer Games. Swimmers must be able to swim one continuous length of front crawl without touching the side of the pool or lane ropes to join.
