  • Dorset & South Wiltshire
Groundwater Situation Report Wessex (Dorset & South Wiltshire) Update 12th September 2017 Current situation Current forecast risk of groundwater flooding There are currently no groundwater flood alerts for Salisbury Plain, Cranborne Chase and the West of Dorset. The latest summary of the water situation in the South West, giving details of the rainfall, groundwater levels and river flows, can found on the GOV.UK website. The link to these pages is below: August finished much drier than it started. Overall for the month the long term average (LTA) for August was ‘normal’ at 95% LTA, 62 mm. The rivers responded well to the rainfall and most flows reflect the geographical distribution of the rainfall, drier in the north and west and wetter in the south and east. Most rivers are now ‘normal’ for the time of year though South Newton on the groundwater dominated Chalk is ‘below normal’ for the time of year. The groundwater sites show a mixed response with some groundwater sites responding to the wetter than average summer, 134% LTA, whilst others on the Chalk and Greater Oolite are still ‘notably low. Several boreholes have received significant recharge this month and were still increasing at month end others while still receding are doing so at a lower rate. Sites on the Greater Oolite and Chalk are ‘notably low’ for the time of year. Many others are ‘normal’ with the exception of Kingston Russell Road, situated in the West Dorset catchment, which was ‘notably high’. In the West of Dorset, the level at the Kingston Russell borehole, on 12/09/2017, was 105.760 metres above sea level (mAOD).

Progress comment: Wiltshire Command is established as a key partner to improve the sharing of information and data to ensure that the most vulnerable people in our area receive early intervention and support. It has been identified that whilst Single View provides the initial platform additional work is required to enable effective targeting of resources The Police, Housing, Social Services, GPs, Fire, Probation with the support of Wiltshire Council are working closely to place prevention at the front of service delivery. Positive examples Wiltshire are involved in, include: - Wiltshire Community Safety Partnership have commissioned work around hoarding Wiltshire Police have commissioned work to look at persistent offenders, helping to build stable and safe lives thus reducing crime levels. Wiltshire Strategic CONTEST board has set up a training sub group to look at the PREVENT agenda. Wiltshire Area Command has a position on a board identifying persons that have significant interaction with all or some of the partners above in order to identify the root causes of behaviour and societal difficulties and thereby develop a plan to help individuals, prevent escalation and improve well-being.

What should your child wear, what is the school policy on absence, what does the school do about homework etc.? This handbook is designed to help. It has information on a whole host of stuff that at some point in the future you will want to know, even if you don’t realise it now! Over the coming months and years, further information and updates will come your way, and this folder should be a handy place to keep all that information together in one place; you never know when it will come in handy! If you want to know something and it is not covered in this handbook, then please try our website. It is our aim to continually update it with useful links to a whole host of information that will help you, as and when the time comes; links to homework guides, useful information regarding healthy lunches and internet safety to name but a few. If you still can’t find what you are looking for then please contact the school to ask. Try not to be overwhelmed by all the information that is coming your way and above all, do your best to enjoy your child’s early stages at Seend Church of England Primary School.
