Comprehensive Annual Financial Report Photos Used with Permission of Pacers Sports & Entertainment Used with Permission of Pacers Photos Indiana Basketball
FINANCIAL SECTION COMPREHENSIVE ANNUAL FINANCIAL REPORT Photos used with permission of Pacers Sports & Entertainment used with permission of Pacers Photos Indiana Basketball Professional basketball came to Indianapolis in 1967 when eight businessmen invested a few thousand dollars apiece to create the Indiana Pacers franchise as a charter member of the American Basketball Association (ABA). The nickname “Pacers” was decided on through a collective decision of the original investors. It was a combination of the state’s rich history with the harness racing pacers and the pace car used for the running of the Indianapolis 500. The Pacers became a member of the National Basketball Association (NBA) in 1976 as a result of the ABA-NBA merger. They originally played in the Indiana State Fairgrounds Coliseum, but moved to the Market Square Arena in downtown Indianapolis in 1974 where they stayed for 25 years. They moved to Bakers Life Fieldhouse in 1999 where they currently reside. Over the years the Pacers have been home to a number of top talent including five Hall of Fame members: Reggie Miller, Chris Mullin, Alex English, Mel Daniels and Roger Brown. The team won three championships while in the ABA and eight division titles so far in the NBA. They were also the Eastern Conference champions in 2000. 2 - State of Indiana - Comprehensive Annual Financial Report Comprehensive Annual Financial Report - State of Indiana - 3 4 - State of Indiana - Comprehensive Annual Financial Report Comprehensive Annual Financial Report - State of Indiana - 5 -

Choosing the Right Path
MAGAZINE SPRING 2015 The Choosing the right path BUTLER With every pedagogical and strategic decision we make at UNIVERSITY Butler University, we must ask ourselves a crucial question: What will the future of learning look like? Advances in technological quality and access; shifting A MESSAGE demographics; rising educational-delivery costs and student-debt loads; nationwide cuts in public-university from funding; a growing movement among bright young people PRESIDENT to skip the college experience; and the promise of micro- credentialing—among other factors—have forced American JAMES M. universities to recognize that undergraduate education is DANKO in the midst of a profound transformation from which there will be no return. Harvard Professor Clayton Christensen, an expert in disruptive innovation, has asserted that half of all American universities may be bankrupt by 2028. While I view this estimate as high, I do believe that 20 percent is a reasonable prediction. However, I also know that Butler is exceptionally well prepared for this sea change in higher education. As we continue to make thoughtful decisions as a collaborative community, we are ensuring that Butler not only survives for many generations to come, but thrives. In the approaching decades, there will be an ongoing demand among young people and their families for high-quality, traditional, residential undergraduate education. Although the number of schools that offer this campus experience may shrink, those who do it best—including Butler—will succeed. Accordingly, in our Butler 2020 Strategic Plan, we are protecting our University’s unique character by investing in the attributes that define it: outstanding academics within a caring campus community; faculty who are accessible to their students; a commitment to integrate the liberal arts with professional education; learning that emphasizes global perspectives, critical thinking, and meaningful volunteerism; and curricular and extra-curricular programs that prepare graduates for lives of purpose in an increasingly complex world. -

Facility Website UPDATE: W/C Holdings put forth a bid on May 20, 2011 for $500 million to purchase the Atlanta Hawks, the Atlanta Thrashers (NHL), and ownership rights to Philips Arena. However, the Atlanta Spirit elected to sell the Thrashers to True North Sports Entertainment on May 31, 2011 for $170 million, including a $60 million in relocation fee, $20 million of which was kept by the Spirit. True North Sports Entertainment relocated the Thrashers to Winnipeg, Manitoba. As of July 2012, it does not appear that the move affected the Philips Arena naming rights deal, © Copyright 2012, National Sports Law Institute of Marquette University Law School Page 1 which stipulates Philips Electronics may walk away from the 20-year deal if either the Thrashers or the Hawks leave. -
