2019 Student Internship Program

Interns will receive hands on experience on all aspects of course maintenance and championship preparation. Everything from equipment operation to transition management will be covered. Also, students will be given leadership opportunities and will see the full extent of maintaining a course at tournament level. Each intern will be paired up with an Assistant Superintendent to serve as their personal mentor for the summer months.

Quail Hollow Club interns will be given the opportunity to train with veteran staff members who have succeeded at the highest level. We actively seek student interns worthy of the challenges inherent to a golf organization of this caliber. Our interns must possess a strong work ethic, high character and an enthusiastic positive attitude. A significant portion of this internship program will include accurate pesticide calibration and application, proper watering techniques, and setup. You will be formally trained in the daily operation of golf maintenance. Your exposure to new tasks will depend on your ability to accomplish assigned duties to our expectations.

Our turf grass program is designed to teach you the fundamentals required to be successful in the golf course industry. You will leave Quail Hollow Club more qualified to excel if you have enthusiasm and are willing to work the hours for success at this level. Our interns will also be given the opportunity to volunteer at another professional tournament during their time at Quail Hollow Club. Quail Hollow Club has hosted the Kemper Open Invitational Golf Tournament (1969-1979), the World Seniors Invitational Golf Tournament (1980-1989) and has been a PGA Tour stop for the past 16 years. We are currently host to the 2019. A few notable winners in the past have been: (2006), (2007), Rory Mcllroy (2010), and (2012). The club also hosted the PGA Championship in 2017 with winning. Quail Hollow Club will host the President’s Cup in 2021.

In the intervening years, the course has undergone a series of improvements, including modifications to several holes by in 1986, and a redesign by Tom Fazio in 1997, 2013, and 2016.

The internship offers exposure to all aspects of golf course maintenance and championship preparation. Your internship will include:

Equipment operation Experience transitioning from cool season to warm season (late spring) Overseeding Experience in the Fall Pesticide calibration and application Fertility program Weed identification and eradication Record keeping Water management Course set-up Training in irrigation operations Training in SubAir maintenance Repairs of irrigation system Large scale projects 40-60 hour work weeks Crew leadership training Budget management

SALARY: Competitive wages starting at $12.00/hour will be offered commensurate to experience.

DURATION OF INTERNSHIP: Three, Six and Twelve Month Internships are available
