It’s a natural fit for a company like ours. That’s why CRKT has called this place home for 21 years. Working with the country’s best designers, we continue to create innovative tools that survive here. Which means they can perform anywhere. We’re partnering with people who take their craft as seriously as we do and are as reliable as a friend in the field. We’re talk- ing of course about Ruger® knives and are happy to have them on board. NEW All of this has led to strong growth for the company. But we realize none of this would be 2016 possible without the freedom provided by our veterans. At CRKT® we care deeply about them. So when Ryan Johnson told us that he’d been privately working with returning combat vets to overcome their PTSD by forging steel into custom tools—we saw a way to give back. In 2016, we’re honored to announce the launch of the Forged By War™ program. The result: mission-ready tools, designed by warriors, with 10% of the CRKT® net profits donated to the veterans’ charity of choice. We’re excited about moving forward into the future and the adventures that are right outside our door. We invite you to join us with confidence in hand. Rod Bremer Founder CRKT.COM 2 NEW 2016 In 2013, Ryan Johnson of RMJ Tactical, designer of elite, military, tactical tomahawks, approached CRKT® with the news that he had been working with a few combat veterans that had returned from war with varying degrees of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). To help work through their challenges, they have been designing and forging steel into custom tools. Drawing from their experience earned in combat situations, they have been creating tools they wished they had available to them in the battlefield. CRKT® cares deeply about our returning veterans and we saw a way to give back to the community that created them. In 2016, we’re honored to announce the launch of the Forged By War™ program. These are mission ready tools, designed by warriors, with 10% of the CRKT® net profits donated to the veterans’ charity of choice. Mission ready tools that are…Forged By War™. See the tools on page 21. 3 CRKT.COM “Ruger is focused on bringing affordable, rugged and reliable products to our consumer base,” said Chris Killoy, Ruger President and COO, “As we looked to expand our licensing program, we knew that we wanted a knife manufacturer that shared these goals. CRKT is a great fit.” The new exclusive Ruger knife line includes designs for everyday carry, hunting, tactical uses, and self-preparedness. Developed by five master knife designers who combine their knowledge of the art with aesthetic details from Ruger firearms. For more information about Ruger-branded knives and tools, visit Ruger.com/CRKT. Manufactured by CRKT® under license from Sturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. CRKT.COM 4 Innovation means building the products that will continue to lead, and define, the industry in terms of creativity and utility. It means constantly asking ourselves how we can be better. Integrity is critical to how we’ve chosen to do business. It means interacting with our customers, and each other, honestly and directly. 1872 OUR HISTORY: Founded as Smith & Hemenway Company, Inc. in 1872 in Hill, New Hampshire, our place in hardware history was established with production of several types of glasscutters, including the patented “Woodward Wizard.” This unique tool, with its tiny wheel for scoring glass, was among the rst in the industry that could be used as a glass breaker, can opener, corkscrew, knife/scissor sharpener, and tack hammer. Because of the “Woodward Wizard” and other unique and dependable tools, our reputation for quality and reliability grew. During a buying trip to Sweden, the company’s founder, Landon P. Smith, heard a blacksmith remark “those little red devils” after sparks from a forge singed his arm. The name stuck in Smith’s mind and upon his return to the States, he began to label many of the tools he sold with the Red Devil® trade name. By the late 19th century, do-it-yourselfers, as well as professionals, were depending on our top-performing products. In the early 1900s, the Red Devil® name became synonymous with quality tools for professional and DIY projects. In 1932, George L. Lee, Sr. acquired the Vesco Tools Company’s line of wood scrapers - the rst of nearly three dozen acquisitions designed to expand and improve the Red Devil® line. These acquisitions included complimentary lines of painters’ tools, including wall scrapers, putty knives, glaziers’ diamond points, and automatic point drivers. Throughout the years, Red Devil® continued to provide new alternatives for age-old problems, developing many innovative products like the ERGO 2000™ PRO putty knife and scraper line, one of the rst on the market designed with ergonomic grip handles.

Various discussion forums and visits to Gene Ingram's website had convinced me that it was time to try one of his knives. At the time he had a simple website with around a dozen models shown, most some form of a droppoint hunter pattern, but I kept seeing other designs that he had done and one, a short fixed pocket knife, pushed me over the edge. I sent Gene an email and requested a small knife with green jigged micarta scales. Never in my imagination did I even consider where this little knife would lead. Pocket Copyright © Outdoors-Magazine.com Page 2/15 Gene Ingram, Knifemaker This little fixed pocket knife simply stunned me upon its arrival. It was simple but somehow just perfect. Gene's grind lines were exceptional, the knife was shaving sharp out of the box, and the sheath was just right. It took up residence in my pocket that day and turned out to be about the handiest little knife I had ever owned.

  • Best Factory Knives of Blade's First 40 Years
BEST FACTORY KNIVES OF BLADE’S FIRST 40 YEARS Table of Contents Chapter 1 Best Factory Knives 1973-1988 Chapter 2 Best Factory Knives 1989-2000 Chapter 3 Best Factory Knives 2001-2012 Chapter 1 Best Factory Knives 1973-1988 They may have been your father’s knives or your grandfather’s knives—they may even be your knives. To help celebrate its 40th anniversary, BLADE released a three-part series recognizing the top 40 factory knives over that span (1973-2013). The first chapter pinpoints the top factory knives from 1973-88. We compiled a list of some top factory knives over that stretch and submitted them to a panel of veteran knife observers and asked them to select their top five to 10—or however many they felt comfortable choosing. Though “top factory knives” can be subjective, we determined a top factory knife is one that excelled in terms of setting a standard that other companies attempted to emulate, and/or excelled in quality of craftsmanship, originality and creativity—or both. We no doubt inadvertently omitted knives that should be included. As a result, we asked our panel members to add those and rank them in their lists, too. The panel members: knife writers James Morgan Ayres, BLADE field editor Kim Breed, Durwood Hollis, Blade Magazine Cutlery Hall-Of-Fame member Bernard Levine and Mac Overton; Pete Cohan, former curator of the National Knife Museum; writer/photographer Terrill Hoffman; Roy Huntington, editor of American Handgunner Magazine; and Rick Thronburg of William Henry. Some of the knives ranked herein were made before 1973.
