So they started New Ways Ministry as a place where that dream could be nurtured and brought to fruition. At the same time they knew that making their vision a reality would take a great deal of hard work, lots of patience, and much time at prayer. They realized that education was needed most of all to fulfill the vision. In 1977 homosexuality was rarely spoken about, even in Church circles, except in hushed whispers. Knowledge about the reality of gay/lesbian people was equally unknown. Their wonderful mixture of idealism and perseverance helped correct those deficiencies as they criss-crossed the nation, diocese by diocese, spreading their positive message of justice and reconciliation for lesbian and gay Catholics.
