Sports: The urban district has a developed network of sports and recreation facilities. Today, there are 33 fitness centres, 3 stadia (Metallurg, Avangard, Lazurny), 1 swimming pool, 2 fitness and wellness centres: Olymp and Yunost; 2 sports schools (Spartak, Vyksunets); Koster Children’s Recreation and Educational Centre, 45 athletic clubs, incl. 3 teenagers’ clubs (Fakel, Ogonyok, Youth Centre). The most popular kinds of sport in Vyksa are football, hockey and volleyball.

Historical background

The settlement was established with the construction of the Vyksa Iron Ore Plant, founded in 1757 by the Batashev brothers, craftsmen from Tula. In 1765 Catherine II signed a special decree permitting the brothers to reclaim the banks of Vyksa. In 1921—1929 Vyksa was the administrative centre of the Vyksunsky uyezd. Today, Vyksa is instated as an urban district.
