Summer Reading Choices For incoming 6th graders: Students will explore the theme of growing up by choosing to read at least one of the following books over the summer. Discussion about both the book and theme will then lead to a narrative essay about an important childhood memory.

For incoming 7th graders:
The summer reading book is The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan.
We will be looking specifically at how the novel modernizes ancient stories and how characters overcome challenges. Connections to this mentor text will be made throughout the school year. If you have already read the novel, feel free to continue the series or read D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths by Ingri d'Aulaire or any mythology books.
For incoming 8th graders: Select one or more books to read this summer. The first week of school, you will compose an essay focusing on the prejudices within the novel. Your book must be FINISHED by the start of the school year. All books can be purchased through Amazon or Barnes and Noble.
