THE NINETY-NINES, Inc, INTERNATIONAL ORGANIZATION OF WOMEN PILOTS N ews Letter International Headquarters — P. 0. Box 1444 — Oklahoma City, Oklahoma AIR TERMINAL BUILDING — WILL ROGERS FIELD ------FEBRUARY, 1958 President's Column It would be absolutely impossible for me to describe in words, my shocking surprise when I looked at the January News Letter! I actually mailed my column to the Editor after I left town, in the effort to keep everything quiet. So far, I have been unable to find any one person who will take the entire blame for it. I did want to share my happiness with all of you, but cer tainly did not expect all the “ fanfare.” You really have it first-hand. We both feel more than duly honored. Plans are well underway for a won derful International Convention in Alabama. You will soon be receiving interesting information concerning our most important event of the year, for all Ninety-Nines. Another new Chapter has been added —our best wishes go to the New East ern Idaho Chapter. It is a real pleasure to know of all the activities within our organization. If your chapter seems to be relaxing a bit, may I suggest that you start a worthwhile project—air marking per haps! A busy membership is a grow ing organization. Never let us stop growing! Good flying! Left to right: Major John Glenn, USMC, Mrs. Donald A. Quarles and Miss Joanne Alford. Mrs. Quarles, wife of the Deputy Secretary of Defense, is the newest member of the Washington, D. C., Chapter of the Ninety-Nines. The picture was taken at the Chapter’s Fall Dinner. Mrs. Quarles, then a student Broneta Davis Evans pilot, was guest of honor. Major Glenn, who last summer made the record- breaking transcontinental supersonic flight (and a w inner on “ Name That Tune” ) was the guest speaker.
