DGP Pro Resumes 2021 (May A B O U T T H E A R T I S T Since 1981, my balance of creativity, technical expertise, and experience has given me an opportunity to be trusted to do a wide range of assignments for thousands of clients around the world for advertising, commercial, editorial, PR, and personal use. The first part of my career was spent learning from the best in the world, the story-telling, people and portrait photography skills, techniques, planning and how to adapt those plans to the realities of the day photographing 1,500+ once-in-a-lifetime weddings and 2,500+ lifestyle portraits. Since focusing on commercial photography, I have used these same skills and experience to plan and photograph, on average, more than 100 commercial projects each year with over 250 images being used in more than 150 pieces of advertising and editorial, print and digital media per year, 1,500+ total pieces to date around the world. With the same hard work I put in when I started my career, I am honored to be considered as one of the top commercial, people, event, and performance photographers, and one of the most versatile visual storytellers you will find today with and authentic look and natural style. My clients appreciate that I am a true and consummate professional. I show up dressed appropriately for each assignment and with all the right equipment – ready to work. I’ve got an easy-going personality and confidence that puts my subjects at ease and allows my clients to trust me on any project, to interact with anyone (including two U.S. Presidents), anywhere, with integrity and a smile. Born in Los Angeles and raised in Orange and Corona del Mar in Southern California, I grew up on the beach, in and on the water, played baseball and golf, became an Eagle Scout, enjoyed playing drums in my cover band, worked in the grocery business and am a graduate of Corona del Mar High School. In 1972, I was drafted into the Army and was stationed near the DMZ in South Korea. I was the battalion legal clerk until, by chance, I ran into my lead singer from my band in junior high and high school. We formed a rock band and became so popular that it became our job until I was honorably discharged in 1974. I returned home and went to college at Orange Coast College and California State University-Fullerton. After completing college with a degree in psychology and a minor in business and photography, I followed my life-long passion for photography and started the dedicated and deliberate work needed to develop my talent, to become one of the best at my craft, and make it my life's work. To master the photographic craft skills (how), the psychology of photography (why) and the business of photography to succeed, I studied with the very best and, over time, became a recognized, award-winning photographer from local to national and international circles. I have wholeheartedly given back to my profession - to help those as I was helped - by becoming a leading member of the local, state and international professional photography organizations as a teacher, mentor, and image judge. I am a Life Member of the Professional Photographers of America (PPA) - the world’s largest nonprofit association for professional photographers, with more than 30,000 members in 54 countries. I hold the prestigious Master of Photography, Photographic Craftsman Degrees and I am a Certified Professional Photographer (which celebrates superior photographic competence through photographic competition, advanced education, and service to the profession). These awards, passing the Judges’ Workshop, and ten years of practice as a local and state judge helped me to become one of only 120 PPA National Affiliate Jurors, from 2001 to 2015. During each year’s PPA International Competition, we would judge over 5,000 images over four days which allowed me to stay in touch with trends and techniques used by photographers from around the world. I hold the Fellowship and Service Awards which are the top awards given by the Professional Photographers of California (PPC) and I am a Past President and Lifetime Member of the Professional Photographers of Orange County (PPOC). I have won numerous awards for my artistry at the local, state, national and international levels. One of the highlights was when I received a perfect score of 100 points for my print entitled "Modern Oriental" which became the one and only Grand Award Winner in the Wedding and Portrait Photographers International (WPPI) print competition in 1993. All of these honors and accolades helped me to become a member of the Fuji Talent Team from 1986 to 2011. The team did research and development projects one year and I would teach my peers the next year about the new products around the world. This helped me stay in touch with technological advances in the industry - from the film to the digital era. In 2001, I was asked to teach a portrait photography class at the University of California Irvine Extension Program which I did from 2001 until 2012. As I changed my focus from personal wedding and portrait work to commercial assignments for advertising and editorial use, I was invited to become a member of the American Society of Media Photographers (ASMP) in 2013. In 2007, I became a contributor for Getty Images and, in 2013, also joined ZUMA Press, creating and selling a number of editorial images annually on each of their websites. I have been married to the love of my life, Karen, since 1980. Together, we have lived a wonderful life, enjoying art and cultural events, performances, sporting events, and other life-changing experiences, here in Southern California, and while traveling throughout the United States, and in 60+ countries around the world.     Throw together a night of performances by international dancers, sprinkle in some teenage competition winners’ solos, and call it something cute: That would seem to be the recipe for Youth America Grand Prix’s “Stars of Today Meet the Stars of Tomorrow” gala, happening this Thursday and Friday at the Brooklyn Academy of Music. Except, the name of this annual program is eerily prescient. When you look back at the lists of YAGP medalists from the past 15 years, that “Stars of Tomorrow” moniker is spot-on. They read like something of a Who’s Who of ballet—including several top names who’ve been highlighted in Dance Magazine. Back in 2002, Sarah Lane nabbed the senior bronze medal with an unforgettable performance: After her music stopped 20 seconds into her Paquita variation, she finished the rest in silence. In the audience (which erupted into a spontaneous standing ovation) was American Ballet Theatre artistic director Kevin McKenzie. We ended up putting Lane onDance Magazine‘s cover in June 2007 just before he promoted her to soloist. Jim Nowakowski won the Youth Grand Prix in 2002 before joining Houston Ballet, then took a star turn on “So You Think You Can Dance.” We named him one of Dance Magazine‘s “25 to Watch” this year. That same year, Brooklyn Mack placed third in the classical dance category for senior men. Today, he’s a standout dancer at The Washington Ballet, and partnered Misty Copeland in her first U.S. performance of Swan Lake. Hee Seo took the Grand Prix in 2003.

    Nutcrackerthe SEISKAYA BALLET Nutcrackerthe Casse Noisette Early in 1891 the legendary composer Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky received a commission from the Imperial Theatre Directorate at St. Petersburg to compose a one-act lyric opera together with a ballet for presentation during the following season. Accepting Tchaikovsky’s choice of sub- ject for the opera, the Theatre Directorate selected Alexandre Dumas’ French adaptation of E.T.A. Hoffmann’s tale, The Nutcracker and the Mouse King, for the ballet. Tchaikovsky was not pleased with the subject selection because he felt it did not lend itself to theatrical presentation and was therefore quite unsuited to serve as a scenario for a ballet. Both the opera and ballet were presented on December 18, 1892. The ballet, conducted by Ric- cardo Drigo, was received somewhat unfavorably. Dance historians have attributed this to the Nutcracker’s unusual story, which was quite different from the romantic tales normally presented. The Nutcracker choreography was begun by the redoubtable Marius Petipa. The balance of the work was taken up by his assistant Leon Ivanov when Petipa fell ill. According to historical accounts, when the ballet was finally produced, Petipa refused to have his name linked with it, feeling his own part in its creation was insufficient to be publicly announced. Filmed live on the City Center stage, the program marks ABT’s much anticipated return to the historic theater for their first full evening program at City Center since 2012. Co-presented by American Ballet Theatre and New York City Center, the program will feature many of the company’s renowned dancers in works by acclaimed choreographer and ABT Artist in Residence Alexei Ratmansky.
