The major highlights of the project are: The project comes under non agriculture land. Project site has proper road accessibility. No displacements of settlement are required. No sensitive places of notified archaeological, historical or tourist importance within or nearby the buffer zone. Project Description Location: The site is located at plot No. 38, 1A/1 (Part), Kandoli, Kudal, District Sindhudurg, Maharashtra. Land: The land provided comes under mining area approved by the government of India. Therefore no need of human displacement is needed in the project area. The land provided for stone mining is 2.0 hectare to the project proponent. All the required facilities are accommodated in the respective project area. Co-ordinate: The coordinates of the plant site are latitude 15°59'58.6"N and longitude 73° 49'31.1"E Water: Water requirement of the project will be met through the open well water which is existing in the project area. Company does not exploit any other water resources or ground water; therefore no adverse impact is anticipated on water environment. The water requirement is estimated to be maximum of 3.0 CMD. Electric Supply: The estimated power requirement for the project will be Nil. Power supply to the project will be sourced from Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Co. Ltd. Project Cost: The total cost of the project including all facilities is estimated to be INR 30 Lakhs. Topography:Sindhudurg district is spread over an area of around 5,207 sq.kms. The population of the District is 8,48,868 as per census of 2011. The modern township of Sindhudurg Nagari is the headquarters of Sindhudurg district . The district is surrounded by the Arabian Sea on the east, the Belgaum District (Karnataka state) and Goa on the South and the Ratnagiri district on the North. Sindhudurg being a coastal district, the climate is generally moist and humid and the temperature variations during the day and throughout the seasons are not large. Sindhudurg is accessible by road on the NH-17 which passes through major towns of Kankavli, Kudal and Sawantwadi or by the Sadekar Enviro Engineers Pvt. Ltd Page 2 Shri. Mahesh Patil picturesque journey on the Konkan Railway which stops at Kankavli, Sindhudurg, Kudal and Sawantwadi. The nearest airports are at Ratnagiri, Belgaum (Karnataka) and Dabolim (Goa)16oC to 22oC in winter and 30oC to 38oC in summer Soil Quality: The outstanding feature in the relief of the district is its highly uneven nature and very narrow riverine plains that fringe the coastline. About 40 to 50% of the area in the district is hilly. The district has three major physiographic divisions from east to west. (i) The eastern part close to the Western Ghats, is highly dissected with deep valleys. (ii) The middle part of the district is occupied by flat-topped hills with undulating plateau with elevations up to 300 meter above mean sea level (m amsl) covered by Laterite. (iii) The coastal plain in the westernpart with elevations of 100 to 150 m amsl. The physiograhic features have given rise to five characteristic landforms viz. (i) The coast line (ii) The estuarine alluvial plains (iii) The Lateritic plateau (iv) Highly eroded remnant hills (v) Scarp faces of Sahayadri hill ranges. The soil formation in the district is controlled mainly by climate. Most of the soils are derived from Lateritic rocks. The soils are classified based on physical characteristics into four types viz., Rice soil, Garden soil,Varkas soil and Alluvial soil. The Rice soils are termed as ‘Mali soils’ when situated in higher levels, ‘Kuryat soils’ in lower levels and ‘Panthar or Vaigam’ when situated near water courses. Varkas soils are reddish brown to yellowish red in colour and are situated on hill slopes. These soils are poor in fertility, shallow in depth and coarse in texture. Garden soils are of mixed origin, yellow red to brown in color and are located in the valley portions. These soils are light,well drained and fairly fertile. Coastal Alluvial soils are recent deposits found along the coastal tracts and constitute deep loam. Due to inundation of sea, part 4 of the coastal soils has become salty. In the Deogad, Malwan and Vengurla talukas practically entire strip is salty. The project proponent’s site comes under the basalt stone area which is rare in this part. It is poor fertile due to hard rock in nature. Meteorology: The average annual rainfall within the district is heavy and is about 3000-3500 mm in Sindhudurg district. The minimum temperature is the lowest and it ranges from about 16oC to 22oC. There is a rapid rise in temperature in March to May ranges from about 30oC to 38oC. The mean maximum temperature in the area goes up to 38°C. In all season relative humidity is between 61 to 90%as reported by Indian meteorological center. Water: Water needed for operation requirement shall be drawn from well water which is present in the project site only. Ecology: There are no ecologically sensitive receptors or endangered species within the core and the buffer study area. Since no extra land will be acquired during the operation of the project there will be no adverse impact on some of the environmental aspect. There will not be any kind of deforestation. No rare or endangered species of flora and fauna are present in the immediate vicinity as well as the study area. Thus, there will not be any adverse impact on flora and fauna. Socio-economic: The project will provide positive impact on the economic development of the region in terms of employment opportunities. Mahesh Patil Risk assessment plan: Risks likely to pose threat to man, environment or property associated with various activities are addressed in this report. Such activities include transport, storage; handling and usage of fuels. All equipments vulnerable to explosion or fire would be designed to relevant IS codes and statutory regulations.Suitable fire protection system comprising of hydrants and spray systems are provided for fire protection. Fire extinguishers shall be tested periodically and always be kept in operational mode. Surrounding population shall be made aware of safety precautions to be taken in case of any mishap in project site. Adequate provisions like emergency response, material safety data sheet, command and control, capabilities, transportation, medical facilities, mitigation measures, training, education to control any disaster situation will be made available. Disaster management plan Disaster Management Plan is envisaged with a goal to prevent hazards and accidents at work places by careful design, operation, maintenance and inspection of the mining machineries & equipments. All safety precautions and provisions for safety will be strictly followed. Suitable control measures will be adopted to take care of hazards/disasters that may occur during mining operation. Fire fighting, first aid provisions & safety appliances will be made available to the staff and their use will be regularly checked. Regular maintenance of all haulage roads & mining machinery as per manufacturer’s guidelines will be done. Conclusion: The minor mineral project of stone crushing will not have any adverse impact on the environment. As all the necessary measures has been taken to avoid any kind of pollution. Altogether the project will have a positive impact on social environment by providing employment opportunity for the skilled and unskilled labors living in the surrounding villages. Also the infrastructure around the site will be improved due to the project. The project proponent will help in building a green environment by providing plantation around the site. No sensitive places of notified archaeological, historical or tourist importance within or nearby the buffer zone. 1.2 Crushing Activity No crusher installed in lease area. 1.3 Need of the Project The proposed mining production is covered under the Ministry of Environment & Forests Notification 2006. This report of Prefeasibility & Environmental Management Plan is given here as a part of the information to be furnished to the SEAC, Govt of Maharashtra for obtaining Environmental Clearance as per office Memorandum No. L-11000/47/2011/IA-II (M) dated 18.05.2012 .To meet the ever- increasing local demand for Crushed stone by the building industry and construction company the project proponent intends to produce the following quantities of crushed stones by Manual method of quarry activity. The year wise production and development details for the five years plan period are summarized in the table below.
