The Food safety and Standards Act, 2006 is defined as : An Act to consolidate the laws relating to food and to establish the Food Safety and Standards authority of India for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import, to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. The Food safety and Standards Act, 2006 is defined as : An Act to consolidate the laws relating to food and to establish the Food Safety and Standards authority of India for laying down science based standards for articles of food and to regulate their manufacture, storage, distribution, sale and import, to ensure availability of safe and wholesome food for human consumption and for matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. According to this act, All Food Business Operators (FBO) in the country will be registered or licensed in accordance with the procedures laid down. The Petty Food Business Operators with an annual turnover not exceeding Rs.12 lakhs shall register themselves with the respective Registering Authority and the Food Business Operators with an annual turnover exceeding Rs.12 lakhs shall obtain license from the respective Licensing Authority.
