CHARLES, Mo. – The top-seeded University of Northern Iowa women’s basketball team managed to stretch a four-point halftime lead into a 61-44 win over No. 5 Wichita State in a semifinal game of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament at Family Arena. The victory is UNI’s 18th straight win and advances the Panthers to the final for the second time in as many years. Jacqui Kalin led UNI (26-5) with 21 points, and Lizzie Boeck finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds, her eighth double- double of the season. K.K. Armstrong dished out three assists while collecting five steals. Haleigh Lankster led WSU (17-14) with 20 points. Chynna Turner grabbed nine rebounds for the Shockers. Katelin Oney hit a three at 15:56 to give UNI its first lead, 7-6. WSU went on an 8-2 run to take a 14-9 lead. The Panthers chipped away, and Kalin knocked down a three at 8:40 to put UNI in front, 17-16. ST. CHARLES, Mo. – University of Northern Iowa junior K.K. Armstrong came off the bench to score a career-high 26 points and help the UNI women’s basketball team top Bradley 87-57 Friday afternoon in a quarterfinal game of the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Tournament at Family Arena. The win is the Panthers’ 17th consecutive victory and advances UNI to the MVC Tournament semifinals for the second straight year. Armstrong was 8-of-14 from the floor, including 4-of-7 from three-point range, helping UNI (25-5) match a season-high 12 threes in the game. Katelin Oney was 4-of-5 from behind the arc on her way to 14 points, and Jacqui Kalin tallied 13 points and six assists for UNI. Erin Brocka finished with a team-high 10 rebounds to go along with six points, six assists and two blocked shots. Leah Kassing led Bradley (15-16) with 15 points, and Raisa Taylor finished with 11. Katie Yohn tallied 10 points and seven rebounds for the Braves. Bradley scored the game’s first seven points to build an early 7-0 lead. Katelin Oney put UNI on the board with a three from the left wing at the 18-minute mark. Bradley added a pair of free throws, but Armstrong took a defensive rebound the length of the floor to bring the score to 9-5.
