DRYWRITE DryWrite is a multi award-winning and Olivier nominated new-writing theatre company that challenges writers to work with specific briefs and goals to actively engage audiences with argument and action. Founded in 2007 DryWrite has since worked with over one hundred playwrights. They have produced original work for theatres including Soho Theatre, Roundhouse, York Theatre Royal, Hampstead Theatre, Trafalgar Studios and Latitude Festival and have toured throughout the UK and internationally. They are currently an associate company of Soho Theatre. DryWrite is made up of Co-Artistic Directors Vicky Jones and Phoebe Waller- Bridge, Producer Francesca Moody and Stage Manager Charlotte McBrearty.

Vicky Jones is also the director and dramaturg of Fleabag. Turned into television’s must-see hit of the summer, Fleabag began as a one woman show written and performed by BAFTA Award-winner Phoebe Waller-Bridge and dramaturged and directed by Vicky Jones. First previewing at Soho Theatre, following the successful evening of shorts, Fleabag made its highly acclaimed Edinburgh Festival Fringe premiere in 2013 before three sold out Soho Theatre runs, a UK national tour (performed by Maddie Rice), and an international run in South Korea. Winner of multiple stage, performer and playwright awards, and nominated for an Olivier Award, the stage play became a six-part comedy series this year, first on BBC Three before transferring to BBC Two following its phenomenal cult following, the success emulated in America on Amazon. In December 2016 the original multi award-winning production returned home to Soho Theatre to standing ovations and 5-star critical acclaim, the entire run selling out within ten minutes of going on sale. In August 2017 Maddie returned to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe for a week as part of the British Council Showcase and again to Soho Theatre for a short run in January this year before she headed off to the Australian leg of the tour across Sydney, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, Melbourne and the UK dates in Wales, Warwick, Leicester, Newcastle, Sheffield, and Brighton.

VICKY JONES Vicky is a theatre director, writer and co-Artistic Director of DryWrite, with whom she has directed shows at Soho Theatre, Bush Theatre (resident company 2010-2012), The Roundhouse, Hampstead Theatre, York Theatre Royal, Liverpool Everyman, Trafalgar Studios and Underbelly. Vicky's debut play The One received the Verity Bargate Award and was staged at The Soho Theatre. VERITY BARGATE AWARD Established in the memory of Soho Theatre’s founding Artistic Director Verity Bargate, the biennial competition has contributed vitally to the company’s programme since its inception in 1982, affirming Soho Theatre’s unwavering commitment to new writers and the importance of artistic development through production. Seeking extraordinary voices and unique styles which stand out from the crowd and tell inspiring unheard stories previous winners of the award include Tony Craze (Shona), Thomas Eccleshare (Pastoral), Diane Samuels (Kindertransport), and Matt Charman (A Night at the Dogs). Winners of the Verity Bargate Award regularly return to Soho Theatre’s stages, most recent examples including Executioner Number One (2017) by Toby Whithouse, who’s also creator of Being Human and a regular writer of Doctor Who; and 2013 winner Vicky Jones, whose play Touch, co-presented by Soho Theatre and her company DryWrite (founded with her co-Artistic Director Phoebe Waller-Bridge [Fleabag]), opened in June 2017 to great acclaim and packed audiences.

Of the 2015 Award (supported by the Peggy Ramsay Foundation and Stephen Garrett), two of the six shortlisted plays have already performed to acclaim on Soho Theatre stages – Fury by Phoebe Eclair-Powell and Theresa Ikoko’s Girls, while the 2015 award- winning Roller Diner, by first time playwright Stephen Jackson premiered at Soho Theatre for a 4-week run last summer. Soho Theatre sponsored by Character 7 has awarded City Song by Dylan Coburn Gray as the winner Verity Bargate Award 2017, who will receive £7000 in respect of an exclusive option for Soho Theatre to produce the play. The In Conjunction Character 7 Prize, awarded to Sucker by Nessah Muthy will offer the writer the opportunity to develop her storytelling skills for TV drama. Judges for the 2017 Award included: Stephen Garrett (Executive Chairman, Character 7), Meera Syal (actress and writer), Graeme Farrow (Artistic Director, Wales Millennium Centre), Emma Rice (Artistic Director, Globe), Matt Trueman (Theatre Critic and Journalist), Jackie Wylie (Artistic Director, National Theatre Scotland), Neil Murray (Artistic Director, Abbey, Dublin) and Ikenna Obiekwe (Literary Agent, Independent Talent).

SOHO THEATRE Soho Theatre is London’s most vibrant venue for new theatre, comedy and cabaret. As entrepreneurial as it is innovative, over the last seven years under the joint leadership of Artistic Director Steve Marmion and Executive Director Mark Godfrey, the charity and social enterprise has almost trebled audiences and produced more work than ever before. Since Edinburgh Festival Fringe 2017 Soho Theatre has produced and toured theatre, comedy and cabaret shows around UK, and Australia, including Half Breed (written and performed by Natasha Marshall) and comedians Lauren Pattison and Ahir Shah on a hugely successful month-long new theatre, comedy and education tour of India. Following a three-month tour of Australia Fleabag is currently touring the UK, as is Sophie Willan: Branded and Half Breed. New UK and India tours programmed for Autumn 2018 to be announced soon.

Soho Theatre exciting 2018 Edinburgh Festival Fringe 15-show programme includes award winners and nominees, theatre and comedy premieres, a drag kids show and international festival debuts. Theatre shows include 2017 OBIE Award winner Underground Railroad Game, Verity Bargate Award shortlisted Karen Cogan’s Drip Feed, and Political History of Crack & Smack. 2017 Edinburgh Comedy Awards winner Natalie Palamides brings her new show NATE, along with Edinburgh Comedy Award Nominees Ahir Shah and Lauren Pattison. Indian comedy star Anuvab Pal, Venezuelan-born, Australian-resident Ivan Aristeguieta and American Myq Kaplan make their Edinburgh debuts; and Denim, Jayde Adams, Jessie Cave, Johnny Woo’s Brexit Cabaret and Le Gateau Chocolat complete this year’s exciting programme.

The digital comedy offering launched summer 2017 in the UK with the first six episodes of stand-up performances recorded live in the iconic building.
