PAUL WALKER – Writer and Producer

Paul is an Irish writer and producer. He studied voice and drama at the College of Music and began as a professional actor in 1991, playing everything from a Celtic super hero to a nun to a petty criminal. He began writing for television in 1996 on RTE’s national soap .

His television work since then spans controversial award-winning two-parter on the disco fire (Best Drama, Irish Film & Television Awards, 2007); Story, Studio and Series Producer (Editorial) and episode writer on RED ROCK Series 2 and 3 (Element Pictures/Company Pictures for TV3, Ireland) (2015-2018; Showrunner/Writer of RED ROCK Season 4 where he developed a unique new writers’ room process.

Other work for television includes De Facto Films’ drama series AN BRONNTANAS for TG4, Ireland, which Paul developed and co-wrote with director Tom Collins. It was Ireland’s entry for the Foreign Language category of the 2015 Academy Awards. The television version was nominated in the Scripted Drama category of the IFTA Awards 2015.

Paul has also written for the award-winning THE CLINIC, EASTENDERS and FAIR CITY and was Story Consultant and Script Mentor on ROSNARUN.

Recent television work includes THE PROFESSIONALS (Fortune Productions, Ireland); and CALL THE MIDWIFE Series 9 (BBC/Neal Street).

Original development work on Paul’s slate includes three original Dublin-set stories for film A SORTA DIRTY DUBLIN TRILOGY and tv ‘dramedy’ series STIFFS with producer Gemma O’Shaughnessy and directors Ronan and Rob Burke.

Feature film projects developed with support from the Irish Film Board (now Screen Ireland) include: THE LAST WITCH for director William Roe; NORWEGIAN WOOD (both Danu Media); Celtic epic THE NAVIGATOR co-written with director David Keane (Black Sheep Productions); SYNCHRONICITY (Parallel Films).

Paul’s radio play 2.36 PM ‘a bittersweet tale of love, cancer and Thierry Henri’ was broadcast on RTE1 Sunday Playhouse during the 2010 World Cup.

Paul’s stage plays include the site-specific award-winning LADIES AND GENTS (2002-2008) and ADRENALIN (2005) both supported by the Arts Council, along with STOKER about the final days of Bram Stoker’s life (2012). Other works include DECKED, DIDI’S BIG DAY and COSTA LADS.
