But life has a way of interven- ing, and in the case of Eulogies’ ringleader Peter Walker, it was an unfortunate turn of events: Walker’s best friend lost his four-year-old boy to cancer, just after the birth of Walk- er’s own child. And Eulogies third album, Tear The Fences Richard Ashcroft’s new single “Are You Ready?” may sound familiar. But unlike so many Eels records, Tear The Fences Down is near pitiless, while the en- tanglement of emotions is still evident. “Will I” is coldly de- 4/2 Steamboat Springs, CO 6/28 Toronto, ONT tached, Walker’s voice hanging like a ghost over the robust, 4/3 Aspen, CO 6/29 Ann Arbor, MI almost aggressive clatter of the band underneath. “How to 4/5 Durango, CO 7/1 Milwaukee, WI Say Goodbye”, probably the most beautiful, affecting song 4/6 Greeley, CO 7/4 Hankinson, ND here, boasts a chorus of gorgeous, free-fall vocal harmonies. 4/8 Manhattan, KS With Los Lobos: Most of Tear the Fences Down is so lyrically ambiguous 4/9 Lincoln, NE 7/21 Toppenish, WA that “How to Say Goodbye” could easily be about a girl.
