  • Helmet Required
HELMET REQUIRED A LOVE STORY BY IAN HAWK MACLEOD Laz, a young man living with life-long epilepsy, wants more out of life. But he’s stuck, imprisoned by his own fears. He’s always worn a helmet as safety is key to his survival, but he feels trapped by this defense. He lives in West Mesa house, a hub for young adults living with disabilities. Laz loves his roommates and caretakers but like every member of a dysfunctional family, he’s dying to get out. When his Nana, who raised him, passes away, he leaps off the existential diving board into an unknown abyss. Laz decides to make a film as a tribute to his Nana and suddenly, life seems inspiring. When he bonds with an elderly woman who lives in the senior home at which the West Mesa group volunteers, Laz finds freedom in this unexpected connection. And when a young, intriguing woman, who has her own self-destructive issues, moves into West Mesa, she sets the group’s predictable lives of routine on fire. HELMET REQUIRED is more than a feature film; it’s a journey to inspire all to take a chance on love, despite the risks. SYNOPSIS PAGE 2 Lazarus (Laz) Lazarus (Laz) is only in his 20’s but already feels stuck. Despite his brilliant mind, the world sees him as disabled. • An Actor's Life and Backstage Strife During WWII
Media Release For immediate release June 18, 2021 An actor’s life and backstage strife during WWII INSPIRED by memories of his years working as a dresser for actor-manager Sir Donald Wolfit, Ronald Harwood’s evocative, perceptive and hilarious portrait of backstage life comes to Melville Theatre this July. Directed by Jacob Turner, The Dresser is set in England against the backdrop of World War II as a group of Shakespearean actors tour a seaside town and perform in a shabby provincial theatre. The actor-manager, known as “Sir”, struggles to cast his popular Shakespearean productions while the able-bodied men are away fighting. With his troupe beset with problems, he has become exhausted – and it’s up to his devoted dresser Norman, struggling with his own mortality, and stage manager Madge to hold things together. The Dresser scored playwright Ronald Harwood, also responsible for the screenplays Australia, Being Julia and Quartet, best play nominations at the 1982 Tony and Laurence Olivier Awards. He adapted it into a 1983 film, featuring Albert Finney and Tom Courtenay, and received five Academy Award nominations. Another adaptation, featuring Ian McKellen and Anthony Hopkins, made its debut in 2015. “The Dresser follows a performance and the backstage conversations of Sir, the last of the dying breed of English actor-managers, as he struggles through King Lear with the aid of his dresser,” Jacob said. “The action takes place in the main dressing room, wings, stage and backstage corridors of a provincial English theatre during an air raid. “At its heart, the show is a love letter to theatre and the people who sacrifice so much to make it possible.” Jacob believes The Dresser has a multitude of challenges for it to be successful.

  • Cast Biographies RILEY KEOUGH (Christine Reade) PAUL SPARKS
Cast Biographies RILEY KEOUGH (Christine Reade) Riley Keough, 26, is one of Hollywood’s rising stars. At the age of 12, she appeared in her first campaign for Tommy Hilfiger and at the age of 15 she ignited a media firestorm when she walked the runway for Christian Dior. From a young age, Riley wanted to explore her talents within the film industry, and by the age of 19 she dedicated herself to developing her acting craft for the camera. In 2010, she made her big-screen debut as Marie Currie in The Runaways starring opposite Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning. People took notice; shortly thereafter, she starred alongside Orlando Bloom in The Good Doctor, directed by Lance Daly. Riley’s memorable work in the film, which premiered at the Tribeca film festival in 2010, earned her a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the Milan International Film Festival in 2012. Riley’s talents landed her a title-lead as Jack in Bradley Rust Gray’s werewolf flick Jack and Diane. She also appeared alongside Channing Tatum and Matthew McConaughey in Magic Mike, directed by Steven Soderbergh, which grossed nearly $167 million worldwide. Further in 2011, she completed work on director Nick Cassavetes’ film Yellow, starring alongside Sienna Miller, Melanie Griffith and Ray Liota, as well as the Xan Cassavetes film Kiss of the Damned. As her camera talent evolves alongside her creative growth, so do the roles she is meant to play. Recently, she was the lead in the highly-anticipated fourth installment of director George Miller’s cult- classic Mad Max - Mad Max: Fury Road alongside a distinguished cast comprising of Tom Hardy, Charlize Theron, Zoe Kravitz and Nick Hoult.

  • Why YOU Should Be an English Major
Why YOU should be an English Major You’ll be able to communicate your ideas effectively. This is what employers want the most – people who can communicate clearly. Impress your employer with your ability to communicate, and you’ll get promoted. You’ll also sound smarter than everybody else. You’ll be able to learn new tasks and ideas. A liberal arts education teaches you how to learn, not how to do a specific job. Your employer will provide on-the-job training. Besides, the hot jobs of 20 years from now haven’t even been thought of yet; major in English, learn how to learn new job skills, and stay employed. You’ll be prepared for med school, law school, business school… Being an English major teaches you how to think critically. Graduate schools in every field are more interested in your ability to analyze situations and make connections between concepts than in your ability to memorize lists. You’ll get a good job. Major scientific, technological, industrial, and financial companies like to hire English majors. They want employees who can analyze problems, think up creative answers, and communicate those answers to coworkers. And an English degree teaches you to do all these things. You’ll earn lots of money. Well, maybe not as much as science graduates, but the 201 201 Payscale College Salary Report listed salaries for popular careers for English majors that ranged from $ to $ . 5- 6 40,000 76,000 You’ll move up the company ladder. • The Edward R. Murrow of Docudramas and Documentary
Media History Monographs 12:1 (2010) ISSN 1940-8862 The Edward R. Murrow of Docudramas and Documentary By Lawrence N. Strout Mississippi State University Three major TV and film productions about Edward R. Murrow‟s life are the subject of this research: Murrow, HBO, 1986; Edward R. Murrow: This Reporter, PBS, 1990; and Good Night, and Good Luck, Warner Brothers, 2005. Murrow has frequently been referred to as the “father” of broadcast journalism. So, studying the “documentation” of his life in an attempt to ascertain its historical role in supporting, challenging, and/or adding to the collective memory and mythology surrounding him is important. Research on the docudramas and documentary suggests the depiction that provided the least amount of context regarding Murrow‟s life (Good Night) may be the most available for viewing (DVD). Therefore, Good Night might ultimately contribute to this generation (and the next) having a more narrow and skewed memory of Murrow. And, Good Night even seems to add (if that is possible) to Murrow‟s already “larger than life” mythological image. ©2010 Lawrence N. Strout Media History Monographs 12:1 Strout: Edward R.
