The Brownsville City Commission has authorized the purchase of land near the airport to expand the runway. The land, located at 2109 S. Indiana Ave., was one of the parcels of real estate considered for purchase for the airport during the commission’s meeting Jan. 7. It will cost the city $37,671, plus closing costs. “The acquisition of these premises is an important part of the growth and development of the Brownsville/ South Padre Island International Airport,” according to the resolution presented.
