As someone who has been very lucky in life, I often say my story would only have been possible in America — and that’s true. But I also know that because of the artificial barriers of discrimination, my story likely would have turned out very differently if I had been Black, and that more Black Americans of my generation would have ended up with far more wealth, had they been white. Building Generational Wealth for Black Families is Critical. That’s why I launched The Greenwood Initiative in Tulsa last month. I visited the site of the Black Wall Street Massacre, where a white mob decimated the prosperous community of Greenwood. It is to the memory of the lost lives and promise of Greenwood that we’ve dedicated The Greenwood Initiative: a plan to address the systematic bias that has kept Black Americans from building wealth. THE GREENWOOD PLAN WILL: • Create 1 million new Black homeowners • Double the number of new Black-owned businesses • Invest $70 billion in the country’s 100 most disadvantaged neighborhoods Fixing the System for Black Families. When I was mayor of New York, I was proud to take on the systematic inequality that held back too many New Yorkers. We increased education funding, built 650 new schools and raised Black graduation rates to record highs. We led an ambitious effort to reduce poverty and managed the largest amount of affordable housing in the nation. And as President, I will work even more aggressively to combat inequality nationwide. I understand that undoing generations of systematic discrimination won’t happen overnight, but we can make progress with a clear vision and a comprehensive plan. I’ve included a pamphlet along with this letter that lays out my plan. When I’m President, implementing The Greenwood Initiative will be a top priority. Join me in ending the systemic inequality that has held Black Americans back for too long! MESSAGE FROM THE CHAIRMAN AND CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER AS THE QUANTITY AND QUALITY OF CONTENT HAVE INCREASED in what is widely regarded as television’s second Golden Age, so have employment opportunities for the talented men and women who create that programming. And as our industry, and the content we produce, have become more relevant, so has the relevance of the Television Academy increased as an essential resource for television professionals. In 2015, this was reflected in the steady rise in our membership — surpassing 20,000 for the first time in our history — as well as the expanding slate of Academy-sponsored activities and the heightened attention paid to such high-profile events as the Television Academy Honors and, of course, the Creative Arts Awards and the Emmy Awards. Navigating an industry in the midst of such profound change is both exciting and, at times, a bit daunting. Reimagined models of production and distribution — along with technological innovations and the emergence of new over-the-top platforms — have led to a seemingly endless surge of creativity, and an array of viewing options. As the leading membership organization for television professionals and home to the industry’s most prestigious award, the Academy is committed to remaining at the vanguard of all aspects of television. Toward that end, we are always evaluating our own practices in order to stay ahead of industry changes, and we are proud to guide the conversation for television’s future generations.

Virginia Minnesota Synopsis (Short) Childhood friends Addison and Lyle reunite 15 years after a tragedy that robbed them of their mysterious and inspirational little friend Virginia. The three girls had lived at Larsmont Bluff, a forbidding lakeside mansion, which served as a private home for children from troubled families. After the tragedy, the home was forced to close, and Addison and Lyle were sent off to unsettled futures many miles apart. Years later, when the owner dies, they are summoned back to Larsmont for the reading of the will. Together again, Addison and Lyle reluctantly return to a place they vowed never to return. They embark on an illuminating overnight journey where they revisit painful memories and discover long-forgotten gifts Virginia had bestowed on them so many years before. Synopsis (Long) Separated for fifteen years by a childhood tragedy that has haunted them ever since, two young women—Lyle and Addison—are reunited at the place both vowed never to return. Lyle and her unusual companion, a “wandering robot” named Mister that she’s picked up on the latest of her never-ending road trips across country, returns to Minnesota’s Lake Superior coastline for the first time since the devastating incident that robbed her and Addison of their mysterious and inspirational little friend named Virginia. Addison had fewer options than Lyle when the tragedy ended their time together at Larsmont Bluff – a private home for girls from troubled families. Lyle was shipped off to California to live with distant relatives, and instead of returning to her dysfunctional mother, Addison was sent to foster care until she aged out of the program and eventually succumbed to a life of dead-end jobs and small-town pettiness.
