MARY CHURCH PAW PAW, MICHIGAN Dear friends in Christ, Saturday June 5—Vigil: Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ Dominic Tang, the courageous Chinese archbishop was Tb 12:1, 5-15, 20; Tb 13:2, 6efgh, 7, 8; imprisoned for twenty-one years for nothing more than his loyalty to Christ and his one, true Church. After five years of Mk 12:38-44 solitary confinement in a windowless damp cell, his Jailer came 4:30 p.m. †Primo Flores req. Blaine & Angie Douglas to tell him he could leave the room for a few hours, to do whatever he wanted. Five years of solitary confinement he had a Sunday June 6—The Most Holy Body & Blood of Christ couple of hours to do what he wanted! What would it be? A hot Ex 24:3-8; Ps 116:12-13, 15-16, 17-18; shower? A change of clothes? Certainly, a long walk outside? A Heb 9:11-15; Mk 14:12-16, 22-26 chance to call or write to family? What would it be? the jailer asked him: Archbishop Tang replied, “I would like to celebrate 8:00 a.m. Pro Populo Mass,” Today, we celebrate the solemn feast of Corpus Christi. 11:00 a.m. †Maury Coady req. Joyce Thomas The Body and Blood of Christ. It is a doctrinal feast established for three purposes: 1) to give God collective thanks for Christ’s Monday June 7 abiding presence with us in the Eucharist and to honor him forever; 2) to instruct the people in the mystery, faith and 2 Cor 1:1-17; Ps 34:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9; devotion surrounding the Eucharist; and 3) to teach us to Mt 5:1-12 appreciate and make use of the great gift of the Holy Eucharist, 8:00 a.m. †Betty Magyar both as a sacrament and as a sacrifice. In the three-year cycle of the Sunday liturgy, each year has its Tuesday June 8 own theme for this great Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ. In Year A, the theme is Eucharist as our food and drink; in Year 2 Cor 1:18-22; Ps 119:129, 130, 131, 132, 133, B, the emphasis is on the Eucharist as the sign of the covenant; 135; Mt 5:13-16 and in Year C, the theme focuses on the priesthood of 8:00 a.m. †Arockia Mary Philip Raj Jesus. Although we celebrate the institution of the Holy req. St. Mary School Eucharist on Holy Thursday, the Church wants to emphasize its importance by a special feast, formerly called Corpus Christi. It was Pope Urban IV who extended the feast to the whole Wednesday June 9—St. Ephrem universal Church. Vatican II states that as a sacrifice "the holy 2 Cor 3:4-11; Ps 99:5, 6, 7, 8, 9; Mt 5:17-19 Eucharist is the center and culmination of our Christian life." 8:00 a.m. Special Intention of Carol Woodward The Eucharist is the mystery of our faith, the mystery of our req. Cecilia Root hope, and the mystery of our charity. Today we do celebrate the Eucharist even after 2000 years, because Jesus told us to do. “Do this in memory of me.” Jesus instituted the Holy Eucharist Thursday June 10 during the Last Supper as a sacramental banquet and a 2 Cor 3:15—4:1, 3-6; Ps 85:9ab and 10, 11-12, sacrificial offering. It is in the Holy Eucharist we meet Jesus who 13-14; Mt 5:20-26 shares His life of grace with us. In this sacrament of the Holy 8:00 a.m. †Arockia Mary Eucharist, Jesus gives his own Body, broken for us on the cross and his precious Blood poured out for us, in order that our sins req. Dan & Ann Kasson & Family might be forgiven. The Eucharistic celebration is also a sacrifice because it is the re- 7:00 p.m. Rosary presentation or re-living in an unbloody manner of Christ’s Death on Good Friday and of His Resurrection on Easter Friday June 11—The Most Sacred Heart of Jesus Sunday. By means of signs, symbols and prayers, we share in Hos 11:1, 3-4, 8c-9; Is 12:2-3, 4, 5-6 (3); Christ’s passion, death and resurrection. This re-presenting, and re-living of the One Sacrifice of Christ, which is the heart and Eph 3:8-12, 14-19; Jn 19:31-37 point of every Mass, assures us of Jesus’ love for us and of His 8:00 a.m. †Esther Healy forgiveness of our sins. Through this sacrifice, the risen Jesus becomes present on the altar, offering himself to the Father Saturday June 12—Vigil: 11th Sunday in Ordinary Time through the ministry of the priest, which he instituted on the last super. 2 Cor 5:14-21; Ps 103:1-2, 3-4, 9-10, 11-12; The Eucharist, (the body and blood of Christ) teaches us the Lk 2:41-51 importance of community, the bond that results from this 4:30 p.m. †Guy, Donna, Paul, Steve & Ron Jach sacrifice. Just as numerous grains of wheat are pounded & Genevieve Wesaw together to make the host, and many grapes are crushed req. Glenna Jach together to make the wine, so we become unified in this sacrifice. Our Lord chose these elements in order to show us that Sunday June 13—11th Sunday in Ordinary Time we ought to be united with one another and to allow and work with the inspiration of the Holy Spirit. Christ is the head and we Ez 17:22-24; Ps 92:2-3, 13-14, 15-16; are the body. Therefore, we should be willing to sacrifice our 2 Cor 5:6-10; Mk 4:26-34 time and talents for our fellow members in Christ’s mystical 8:00 a.m. Pro Populo body. This is symbolized by our sharing in the same bread and the same cup which is body and blood of Christ. Therefore, The Special Intentions of Mike & Sue Gibbs Holy Communion should strengthen our sense of unity and love (50th Anniversary) among us. By receiving Holy Communion let us pray that we become Christ- 11:00 a.m. †Larry Dietz (Wedding Anniversary) bearers as Mary was, with the duty of conveying Christ to others req. Dorothy at home and in the workplace, as love, mercy, forgiveness, humble and sacrificial service. So, let us pray as St. Thomas Aquinas prayed: "O Sacrament most holy! O Sacrament divine! Baptisms—If you have a child you would like to receive the All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine!" Have a nice week-end. Sincerely, Fr.
