WARNING: These STX updates will ONLY run on the Mac OS X systems indicated, or later versions. All computers running STX MUST be upgraded to the OS X minimum requirements indicated, or later version, before installing an STX upgrade.
To find out which OS X so ware version your Mac is running, go to the upper le -hand corner of your screen, click on the Apple, then choose About This Mac — a screen will open and informa on about your computer, including the OS X version number, will be displayed.
IMPORTANT: Always log in as OWNER and review exis ng employee password security se ngs a er new features or reports are installed. Employees will not have access to any new features and/or reports un l you make the necessary changes to the employee password security op ons.
PLEASE NOTE: Under-the-hood stability and performance improvements are included in each new release of STX. This document covers only the features that affect your hands-on interac on with the so ware. Upgrades described in this document are listed by subject and within each subject, chronologically by version. Each descrip on shows the version number in which the upgrade appears, is tled in caps, and highlighted in the colors you see above, like this: TYPE OF UPGRADE (vXXX). All subsequent (or newer) versions of STX will include the described upgrade, unless another upgrade replaces it. Some of the new features included in this document are for use with Credit Card Processing, Online Services, and STX for iOS. You must be subscribing to Online Services and have the STX for iOS op on enabled on your STX License Key in order to use the new features.

What's New in STX 8 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 Application
DISK SPACE ALERT (v225): Upon login, STX will check the disk space on the server to make sure there is enough room remaining to provide good performance – displays an alert if disk space is low.
STX PREFERENCES (v250): New keyboard shortcut: Command-, (Command Comma) makes accessing the STX Preferences window easier. iDEVICE POLE DISPLAY SETUP (v250): An iPod touch, iPhone, or iPad can be used as a Pole Display or Remote Receipt. Simply pair your device with STX and mark the Receipt? checkbox next to the connected device, showing in the Setup: Devices sec on of STX. Each device marked as a receipt device will ONLY func on as a receipt device. Your guests can view the cket receipt on the device each me a cket is changed, whether adding services, retail, gi s, performing a refund, or adding payments. This is especially helpful to California loca ons, which are required to display prices as items are added to a cket, and before payment is requested. Just like a receipt printer, each computer running STX can set a preference to point to a different device.
Simply open the Preferences window and choose the Receipts tab to set your Receipt Device for each computer. Press the Show/Hide Receipt bu on on a cket, and it will display the receipt on both your computer screen, as well as on the screen of your Receipt Device.
Or, check the Default Client Visit to Show Receipt box, and the receipt will automa cally be displayed with the cket, without having to click the Show/Hide Receipt bu on on the cket. When between ckets, the device will automa cally begin to display a slideshow of images or movies that you have placed in an album en tled STX. You must create the STX album in iPhoto, add the desired files and sync to the iDevice through iTunes. This is a great way to market to your guests.
What's New in STX 9 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 IMAGE RESIZING (v259): Image resizing behavior has been modified throughout STX. When an image larger than 2MB in size is being added, a warning will appear. You will need to resize your image and try again.
Click OK to select another image. This warning appears in the following areas:
Setup: General: Company, to add a logo
Setup: General: Gi Templates, to add a custom gi template
What's New in STX 10 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 When an image larger than 2MB in size is being added, a warning will appear. STX will a empt to reduce the image for you. Click Cancel to select another image.
Click Add Large Version (2MB) to add the image at the 2MB size. Click Reduce & Add (100KB) to add a reduced version of the image. In most instances, a 100KB image will be sufficient for screen display. This warning appears in the following areas:
Client: Client Cards: Pictures, to add a new client picture stored on your computer.
Setup: Employees: Pictures, to add a new employee picture stored on your computer.
What's New in STX 11 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 Appointments
APPOINTMENT BOOK (v225): Displays a numeric badge at the top of each column indica ng the number of appointments on the wai ng list for each staff member.
REQUESTED EMPLOYEE (V245): A new Requested Employee checkbox allows you to determine if an employee was requested to perform a specific service or not. By checking this box, the employee will be marked as having been requested. This new feature does not consider what Visit Type is selected when booking an appointment.
The appointment detail screen shows which employees were requested and which were not. Open the appointment detail screen to manually check or uncheck each employee as being requested by the client to perform the service(s). Appointments booked using the Basic Booking method will not have the Requested Employee box automa cally checked when the appointment is scheduled. Appointments booked using the Appointment Builder will have the Requested Employee box automa cally checked if a single employee is selected from the employee popup menu.
The same holds true for appointments booked online. If the client requests a specific employee per service(s) being booked, the Requested Employee checkbox will automa cally be checked. The Requested Employee checkbox will remain unchecked when searching for Any employee. This informa on is also available on the Service Log tab of the Client Card as shown below.
What's New in STX 12 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 Employees who were requested appear in GREEN text. The Requested Employee informa on is also available on the Services tab of the Client Visit as shown below.
Employees who were requested will be checked. Manually check for uncheck the Req checkbox for each employee.
What's New in STX 13 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 A new Payroll Method op on has been added for when a service is flagged with a Requested Employee. To add this op on to a payroll method, go to Setup: Finance: Payroll Methods. Please note, the Requested Employee box on the Client Visit cket transac on MUST be checked before the amount will be calculated in payroll.
In this example, there is an extra commission of 10% given for services flagged with a requested employee. For instance, the Gross Service – Employee Requested comes to $300 paying a 10% commission, where the overall Gross Service amount is $405 paying a 30% commission. When the 2 are added together, the employee receives a 10% bonus where any services are flagged with Requested Employee.
What's New in STX 14 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 BOOKING CALENDAR – VALUE (v245):
When checking the new Value checkbox, the appointment Booking Calendar will show the value of booked appointments at the bo om of the screen. Note: Employee security must be given permission to access this new feature. To set employee security permission to view the Value of booked appointments on the Booking Calendar, go to Setup: Employee: Security.
The Can View Booked Value is located under Appointments: Booking Calendar Window. When le unchecked, the employee will not be able to view the value of any of the booked appointments.

APPOINTMENT BUILDER (v245):
The Appointment Builder now shows the base Price of each service in the search results. The base Price may vary depending on the employee chosen to perform the selected service(s).
What's New in STX 16 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 SMS TEXT MESSAGING – APPOINTMENT REMINDER (v245): The new SMS text messaging feature allows you to send appointment reminders to clients who wish to receive a reminder via text messaging and have a valid 10- digit phone number on file.
In addi on to the client receiving a reminder email of their upcoming appointment, SMS reminders are sent two hours in advance of an appointment. NOTE: You must be ac vely subscribing to Online Services in order to send SMS reminders. To enable the sending of SMS reminders, go to the Online tab in the General Setup window.
Check the box labeled Send SMS reminders to enable the feature. NOTE: SMS appointment reminders will only be sent if there are SMS credits remaining. Click Buy Credits to purchase SMS credits. The following screen will appear.
What's New in STX 17 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 Select the desired number of credits and enter the Payment Informa on.
Click Purchase Online, and a receipt will be emailed.
A er purchasing SMS credits, go to the Client Card for each client wishing to receive an SMS appointment reminder.
Only clients with the SMS checkbox checked will receive the SMS appointment reminder. The box is only enabled for valid 10-digit phone numbers listed in the Cellular field.
Clients can opt-in for SMS appointment reminders when logging into the Online Booking site, which will automa cally update the client card in STX. A er logging into the Online Booking site, the client will click Edit Profile. The SMS op on will appear at the bo om of the Profile screen.
What's New in STX 18 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 Check the box for SMS reminders and click Update Profile.
A new report has been added to show a summary of all SMS ac vity. The SMS Ac vity report is found in Repor ng: Reports: Appointments.
Set the desired Start Date and End Date. Click Print.
What's New in STX 19 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 Each me a new SMS appointment reminder is sent, the SMS Ac vity report will show the date and how many reminders were sent at once. With each SMS appointment reminder, the Balance will reflect how many credits are remaining.
Start – The star ng balance for the number of SMS credits available for the date(s) of the report. Credits – The number of SMS credits purchased for the date(s) of the report. Debits – The number of SMS credits used during the date(s) of the report. End – The ending balance for the number of SMS credits available for the date(s) of the report. Date – The date where each SMS ac vity occurred. Descrip on – Describes what kind of SMS ac vity occurred, whether sending a reminder or purchasing SMS credits. Credit – Shows how many SMS credits were purchased. Debit – Shows how many SMS credits were used. Balance – A running balance of SMS credits available.
STANDING APPOINTMENTS (v259): Now you can create standing appointments using the modified appointment dura on of the base appointment. Previously, when crea ng a standing appointment from an appointment whose dura on was manually changed, either stretched or shrunk, the standing appointments created would have a dura on of their original length.
What's New in STX 20 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 APPOINTMENT STATUS (v259): A new appointment Status has been added for use with Online Services. Appointment reminders sent out via Online Services now set the appointment status to Email Sent, instead of Called.
This feature provides differen a on from actual phone reminders versus email reminders. This status cannot be set on the book, but it can be set on the Appointment Detail window if desired.
The Email Sent status color is a muted orange.
APPOINTMENTS: CONFIRMATION EMAIL (v283): Adds ability to send a Confirma on Email when an appointment is booked ‘in-house’.
Double-click an appointment to open the Appointment Detail window. At the bo om of the window, click Email: Confirma on to have a confirma on email sent directly to the client.
What's New in STX 21 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 Clients
CLIENT CARD – PICTURES (v225): Adds the ability to set a default image for the client. This image will be displayed on the Appointment Book and in the iPhone applica on.
CLIENT CARD – SERVICE AND RETAIL LOGS (v225): Displays “Yes” in the “Pk” column for packages and series. Displays a dash (-) for items within a series or a package. Displays stock numbers on product packages.
CLIENT MARKETING (v225): Fixed the “Client of Mailing” filter that prevented it from working properly in some circumstances.
CLIENT MAILING STATISTICS (v245): A new Retry toolbar item has been added for any failed mailings, and 2 new detail sec ons have been added for Booked and Ticketed.
If Internet connec vity has been an issue so that the mailing was not able to send, it will be listed in RED. Once Internet connec on is regained, highlight a failed mailing and click Retry. The failed mailing will a empt to resend.
The 2 new detail sec ons are as follows: Booked – Shows the number and value of all appointments booked within 36 hours of the mailing date by people who have READ the email. Ticketed – Shows the number and value of all Client Visit cket transac ons associated with the appointments booked by people who have READ the email. Double-click a client name from any of the detail sec ons to go to the clientʼs card.
What's New in STX 22 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 CLIENT MARKETING – FILTERS (v259):
The Spending on Product Lines filter previously ignored the amount entered into the Amounts field.

What's New in STX 23 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 CLIENT MARKETING FORMAT CHANGE (v262): New tabs have been added to the Client Marke ng & No fica on window.
The image drawer (tray) has been removed, and the ‘bubbles’ for names and email address are now located in the bo om center of the window. Images can be managed outside of STX. If you’ve discarded a previously used image, simply go to Client: Mailing Sta s cs, and select a previous mailing. Drag the desired image from the Mailing Sta s cs window to your desktop, then drag the image from the desktop into the new mailing. It is recommended a folder be created to contain each image, header, and footer being used in online mailing campaigns.
CLIENT NOTIFICATIONS (v262): STX now supports sending automated no fica ons between midnight and 1am, or within an hour of the server connec ng to the Internet, to all qualifying guests with a valid email address for the most common guest communica ons. The content of the no fica on can be changed just like an online mailing campaign, and are sent at most once per day.
New Guest Welcome - Sent to guests the day a er they complete their first transac on, whether it be a service or retail only transac on. To automate the New Guest Welcome email, check the Automate box. Select a template and complete the Subject line. Edit the content of the email as desired. Click Choose Template... to select a different template. This no fica on will ignore the Do Not Mail flag since it is transac onal in nature.
What's New in STX 24 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 Birthday Wishes - Sent to guests either on their birthday or up to seven days before. To automate the Birthday Wishes email, check the Automate box. Select a template and and complete the Subject line. Edit the content of the email as desired. Click Choose Template... to select a different template. Use the popup menu labeled Guests receive their birthday wishes to select the desired op on.
Overdue Guest - Sent to guests between two and six weeks a er their last appointment if they have no future appointment already booked. Think of this as a ‘reminder’ to schedule another appointment before the client is considered ‘overdue’.
To automate the Overdue Guest email, check the Automate box. Select a template and and complete the Subject line. Edit the content of the email as desired. Click Choose Template... to select a different template.
Use the popup menu labeled Guests are overdue if they have no appointment on the book to select the desired op on.
What's New in STX 25 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 Lost Guest - Sent to guests between two and six months a er their last appointment if they have no future appointment already booked. To automate the Lost Guest email, check the Automate box. Select a template and and complete the Subject line. Edit the content of the email as desired. A new backup is automa cally created on a weekly basis, as long as the STX Server computer is le on. However, a new backup can be created at any me by going to the Backups op on in the STX Menu from any computer using the STX so ware. Copies of the backups can be created from the STX Server only. Only one backup file can be created at any given me.
To create a new backup, click Backup Now. The new backup will appear in the Backup list. To save a copy of an exis ng backup, click Save To...
Navigate to where you would like to save the backup copy and click Save.
The copy of the backup will appear.

Only a Server computer with a valid license can perform a restore. Restoring will automa cally roll-forward all informa on since the backup was taken, as long as you are restoring to the same computer where the backup was originally created. If they do not have an email address, or would like it to be emailed to a different email address than whatʼs on file, the desired email address is entered here. This email address will NOT change what is stored on the client card. NOTE: You must be ac vely subscribing to Online Services in order to email receipts to clients.
Tap Save to email the receipt.
Tapping Print Receipt will allow you to print a receipt for the client using the receipt printer already being used by the STX Desktop version. The iDevice can see only those printers that are set up as receipt printers within STX, and that copy of STX must be running on the computer.
Receipts printed from within the STX desktop version will show an obscured signature on the receipt from where the client signed on the iDevice.
NOTE: It is the industry standard to print an obscured version of the signature, rather than the actual signature itself.

What's New in STX 45 ©STX So ware, LLC 2010 - 2016 iOS – REMOTE RECEIPT (v250): STX for iOS can now be used as a Pole Display or Remote Receipt device at your point of sale loca on. New laws, par cularly in California, may require you to display the price for items as they are added to a cket. By se ng up your device within STX on the computer, you can use various iOS devices at your front desk to display this informa on to your guests.
When si ng idle between ckets, STX on the iOS device will automa cally begin a slideshow using any images or movies you have placed in a STX album you created in iPhoto, and synced to the device through iTunes. This is a great way to market to your guests, provide them with ps or simply keep them entertained.
When a cket is opened in STX on the computer, STX on the iOS device will interrupt the slideshow and the guest’s receipt will appear. Changes made to the cket will automa cally appear on the receipt, including changes made to services, products, gi s, refunds, and payments.
The receipt displayed on the iOS device is full screen, and looks exactly as it does when viewing it in STX on the computer, as well as when it is printed on the receipt printer.
iOS – INVENTORY MANAGEMENT (v259): All employees with proper permission to manage inventory can now do so on any iOS device with the STX app.
The Manage Inventory op on on iDevice requires three security provisions.
To set the appropriate security op ons, go to Setup: Employees: Security.

It also supports redeeming Reward program promo ons, the same as redeeming any other promo onal discount on the cket. iOS – APPOINTMENT BOOK (v262): STX for iOS now supports the ability to create a new appointment anywhere on the book, including on top of exis ng appointments by pressing and holding in place. Click the Billboard Color: color box to select the desired Badge color.

REPORTS: CLIENT RETENTION BY EMPLOYEE (v250): The Client Reten on by Employee report allows filtering of each guest’s Ini al Promo on. This is a great way to see if your promo ons are producing retained guests, or if your promo ons are bringing in guests who fail to return.
Only guests flagged with the selected promo on will be included on the report. The Ini al Promo on is the promo on set on the new guest’s client card to indicate how the client came to your business. On the Contact tab of the client card, use the popup menu to set the New Client (Ini al) promo on.

Gizmos are added by clicking Add Gizmo, found in the upper le -hand corner of the Dashboard window. The Gizmo Library will appear. Find and select the Gizmo you wish to add and click the Add bu on in the lower le -hand corner. The newly added Gizmo will appear on the Dashboard.
Moving a Gizmo will reflow the gizmos beneath where you wish to place it.
Remove a Gizmo by clicking the X located in the upper right-hand corner of each Gizmo.

SETUP – GENERAL: ONLINE (v262): You can now choose how far in advance email reminders are sent to guests. Choices include 24, 48, 72 and 96 hours or “Automa c” which is currently the same as 48 hours.
Appointment reminders are sent at most 24, 48, 72 or 96 hours before each appointment and at least eight hours a er the appointment was booked. This allows for appointment changes on the day of booking. Use the Send Email reminders popup menu to make your selec on. Email reminders sent Automa cally are sent approximately 48 hours before the upcoming appointment.
Reminders are skipped for appointments booked within the next 24 hours. Addi onally, reminders are not sent within sixteen hours of an appointment. If an STX Server computer is asleep or not connec ng to the Internet, appointments within the next 16 hours of the computer being awakened or connec ng to the Internet again will not generate a reminder. It is impera ve for proper opera on that an STX Server computer remain awake and connected to the Internet 24/7/365.

Logging in for the first me a er installing the STX update will require a password change. Changing the password (OWNER or employee) is required in order for the STX so ware to remain PCI Compliant for electronic credit card processing.
Whether or not you are currently processing credit cards through the STX so ware, the password change requirement will s ll exist.
Due to credit card compliancy requirements, the process of changing the password will be repeated on a regular basis.
A er installing the update, launch the STX so ware. The Login screen will appear.
NOTE: If you are logging in using the OWNER password, be sure to remember what you are changing it to. For the protec on of your STX data, do not tell anyone else what the new OWNER password is.
Immediately a er logging in, either with OWNER or employee password, the following screen will appear.
Type the New Password and again to verify the new password.
Click Change Password.
