WHAT ARE YOU DOING FOR LENT?

As Lent has come upon us, the question; “what should I do for Lent ” tends to come to mind quite often. Many of us, myself included, usually look at Lent in two ways. One, what should I give up to be healthier: food, alcohol, sweets, coffee? The second, what is the most extreme thing I can do to make myself a better person?

I have found myself in one of those two camps. This year, after reflection on the Gospel for this weekend, I can ’t help but think that maybe Lent isn ’t about ME and what I want. Maybe it ’s less about giving something up but more entering into something else.

This weekend, Jesus has entered the desert to be tempted by the devil. I don ’t think that whole time was just for Jesus to prove to Himself - how strong He was but for Him to enter a more profound and authentically personal relationship with His Father. To strip away the outside distractions, bring His prior experiences to His Father and ask for the Father ’s guidance in the mission ahead.

This Lent, our mission is to enter the desert with our Lord and to develop a truly personal authentic relationship with Him. Sometimes that might look like daily praying for someone who has been driving us crazy up until this point. Maybe cracking open that Bible that ’s been sitting in the corner, collecting dust. Maybe it is inviting someone to church at least once a month or even inviting someone to our Parish Mission this Lent.

Either way, my prayer for each and every one of you is that you might have the courage to enter the desert of Lent with our Lord. In addition, to lean in and get to know who He is and what He has in store for us as His DISCIPLES.

Fr. Charlie

Children & Youth Lenten Mite Box Collection The Mite Box Program provides a good opportunity for the children and young people of St. Bronislava Parish to participate in the work that is being accomplished in the missions through the Diocese of La Crosse. It also provides our youth a chance to learn about the importance of making a sacrifice through almsgiving.

During the Season of Lent, the Diocese of La Crosse collects financial assistance through the Student Mite Box Program. NEW this year, we will be participating in the Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) , a Pontifical (of the ) Mission Society. Monies collected through MCA by children and youth are directed toward building of schools, providing health and nutrition programs, and teaching and learning resources.

The Missionary Childhood Association (MCA) was founded in 1843 on the combined efforts of Bishop Charles de Forbin -Janson and Pauline Jaricot. The Bishop of Nancy, , had learned much as a missionary in North America. Later, after meeting with Pauline in Lyon, a program was begun to promote “CHILDREN HELPING CHILDREN. ” The goal was to raise awareness and charitable giving among the children of Europe in order to promote the gifts of faith and salvation among the children of North America, China and mission areas around the world.

We will work together to achieve the goal of connecting children across the world in the name of Jesus Christ and His Church. Let us work together to inspire faith in our children, as they serve children in need with the love of Jesus—making a difference in our world. Please consider having your child put loose change or a portion of their allowance for children and families who are less fortunate. MCA mite box collection will run through Lent.

Lenten mite boxes have been sent home with children and youth through Religious Education and Catholic Schools. Extra MCA mite boxes are in the gathering space.
