Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, 29, became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress, breaking a record previously held by New York Republican Elise Stefanik, elected in 2014 at the age of 30. Deb Haaland of New Mexico and Sharice Davids of Kansas became the first Native American congresswomen. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan were elected as the first-ever female Muslim members of Congress. In Massachusetts, Ayanna Pressley became the state's first black woman elected to Congress. Texas elected Latinas to Congress for the first time - Veronica Escobar of El Paso and Sylvia Garcia of Houston. Letitia James became the first black woman elected to statewide office in New York, and she will also be the state's first black attorney general. Marsha Blackburn will become Tennessee's first female Senator. Over 150 LGBTQ candidates claimed victory in midterm elections. Jared Polis, the newly elected Governor of Colorado will be America's first openly gay male governor. Krysten Sinema, the newly elected Senator from Arizona will be America's first bisexual Senator. We are still awaiting results in even more races where history could be made.

Now, exhale...

These individuals (and many others) made history, but what they also did is remind us that history is always being created anew. We always have the opportunity to make tomorrow look different than yesterday, and sometimes all it takes is for us to decide that something that currently is just doesn't have to be that way anymore.

We are grateful to all the people who are making history every day in our country, in our workplaces, and in our communities. We may not always know their names, but our lives are enriched by the efforts of each and every one of us who decides that tomorrow can look better than yesterday.

Of the people, by the people, for the people...is starting to look like the people and that is exciting indeed for all of us!
