If Eid is on Sunday, Quran Gallery date will be change to June 24th, 2017 2 Part 1: Memorize the Surah in each participant's age group (see chart below) AGES Surahs Age 5 and below Fatiha, Ikhlaas Age 6 Naas Age 7 Fil Age 8 Zilzaal Age 9 Teen Age 10 Aadiyaat Age 11 Shams Age 12 Bayyinah Age 13 Infitar Age 14 Layl Age 15 Al-Ala Age 16 Balad Age 17 Ghashiyah Age 18 Inshiqaq Age 19 Buruj Age 20 Takwir Age 21 and above Naba Mutaffifin Abasa Fajr On June 25th, participants will be reciting the memorized Surah to the panel of judges. Time will be announced closer to the date. Note: These Surahs have been placed in order of difficulty. Please keep in mind that some Surahs have more ayaats, but are easier than other Surahs which have less ayaats. Note: If there are too many participants in one age group, participants will be assigned different surahs. 3 Part 2: Present a display board with key concepts of assigned surah. Please collect your board from Sister Zainab Razavi or Sister Sakina Jaffari on Saturday May 27th. Mandatory requirements on display board (for ALL ages) 1 Title of Surah 2 Arabic Script (can be printed, however handwritten is preferred as writing the Quran has immense blessings) 3 Translation (please refer to specific translators found on References page) 4 When the Surah was revealed and relevant information regarding revelation 5 Main theme of Surah (what is the Surah talking about) 6 What are the benefits of reciting this Surah? 7 Other interesting facts related to Surah 8 Diagram or Picture related to tafseer of Surah 9 List of key words and their meanings (maximum 15 words) 10 Reference list Additional mandatory requirements (critical thinking exercise) for Ages 10 and up: Please choose at least 3! 1 Which Dua(s) can we derive from the Surah? 2 Find one hadith or saying by Prophet or Imams related to the tafseer of Surah 3 Important messages learned from Surah (how message affects you personally) 4 How can you apply the message of this Surah to your daily life? 5 How does this surah connect to human conditions of today? 4 References: You may use any Madressa books or religious books by our scholars for research. Please make sure to cite all references. From Surah al-Fajr (89) to Surah an-Nas (114) The light of Islam has enlightened and continuing to enlighten every corner in the world and seekers of truth have closely associated to the Holy Quran which carries the Word of Allah (SWT) to humanity. With increasing focus and attention to the Holy Quran, efforts has been done to provide a pure, correct and accurate translation of this divine book. But sometimes it is difficult for the readers to understand all of the apparent and hidden meanings and it is the duty of every Muslim, man or woman, to read, understand and contemplate on the Holy Qur’an according to his own capacity. Hence, the need for proper explanation becomes obvious and necessary. The book titled, “An Enlightening Commentary into the Light of the Holy Qur’an” compiled by a group of Muslim scholars, under the direction of Ayatullah Allamah Al-Hajj Sayyid Kamal Faqih Imani is a valuable effort which presents a thorough commentary on the Quran in 20 volumes made available to the reader. All participants should do their OWN work. Parents can assist in buying supplies but the research and the display board should be made by ONLY the participants. This is a matter of ethics and academic integrity. Parents are the FIRST role models for their children and if they assist in the project, they are teaching their children it is okay to break the rules. We must teach our children that Allah (swt) is watching ALL the time. 2. If participants are handwriting the information on the board, please make sure the handwriting is legible. 3. No copy and paste allowed. Please reword the information in your own words and make sure there is a reference sheet on the board. 4. All completed boards are due Thursday, June 22nd, 2017 by 8:00 PM but can be submitted early. 5. Please do NOT put your name on the display board – the boards will be graded anonymously before June 25th. You will be assigned a number when you collect the board. 6. We are looking for high quality displays and only the ones that meet the standards will be presented in the Gallery. Please use your creativity, resourcefulness, and inspiration when working on the project. 7. The Gallery will be on display for the whole community on Sunday, June 25th so please make sure boards are attractive and well thought out. 8. Participation in the competition spans all age groups. We encourage grandparents, parents, youth, and children to participate. The elders in the community should be role modeling for the youngers! For the recitation and memorization, we encourage you to listen to online recitations of world famous Qaris and recognize the proper pronunciation. There will be a Sample display board at Bait Wali-e-Asr. Please look out for it as it will guide the participants with their own display board. Please register as soon as possible.
