Stanislav Tuksar Zagreb, 2016 ŽIVOTOPIS MENTORA Akademik Stanislav Tuksar, dr. sc, umirovljeni redoviti profesor Muzičke akademije Sveučilišta u Zagrebu Akademik Stanislav Tuksar rođen je 27. srpnja 1945. u Gornjem Kraljevcu (Međimurje). Osnovnu školu, gimnaziju i srednju glazbenu školu završio je u Zagrebu. Diplomirao je na Filozofskom fakultetu (filozofija, anglistika) i Muzičkoj akademiji Sveučilišta u Zagrebu (violončelo), te magistrirao 1978. na Muzičkoj akademiji i doktorirao 1990. (muzikologija) godine na Filozofskom fakultetu Sveučilišta u Zagrebu. Znanstveno se usavršavao na Sveučilištu Sorbonne u Parizu (1974‒1976) i u Staatliches Institut für Musikforschung u Berlinu (1986‒1988) kao stipendist Humboldtove zaklade. Radio je u Zavodu za muzikološka istraživanja HAZU kao upravitelj, a od 1992. je profesor na Odsjeku za muzikologiju Muzičke akademije Sveučilišta u Zagrebu. Predavao je i na Hrvatskim studijima Sveučilišta u Zagrebu i Sveučilištu J. J. Strossmayer u Osijeku. Objavio je kao autor, prevoditelj i urednik 26 znanstvenih i stručnih knjiga te 215 znanstvenih i stručnih radova u časopisima, zbornicima i drugim publikacijama u Hrvatskoj (162) i inozemstvu (53). Sudjelovao je na 122 simpozija (79 u inozemstvu) i gostovao kao predavač na 22 akademske institucije u SAD-u, Kanadi, J. Africi, Australiji, Irskoj, Italiji, Poljskoj i Njemačkoj. Organizirao je 15 znanstvenih skupova, od čega 13 međunarodnih u Hrvatskoj, Italiji i Španjolskoj. Suosnivač (1992) je, tajnik (1992‒1997) i predsjednik Hrvatskog muzikološkog društva (2001‒2006. i 2013‒2016). Glavni je urednik međunarodnog časopisa International Review of the Aesthetics and Sociology of Music i član redakcija 6 časopisa u zemlji i inozemstvu i glavni istraživač projekta "Sređivanje, katalogizacija i obrada glazbenih arhiva i zbirki u Hrvatskoj" MZOŠ-a 1992‒2013. Suradnik je međunarodnog projekta HERA: “Music Migrations in the early modern age: the Meeting of the European East, West and South (MusMig)” (2013‒2016). Glavna djela: Hrvatski renesansni teoretičari glazbe (1978); Hrvatska glazbena terminologija u razdoblju baroka. Nazivlje glazbala i instrumentalne glazbe u hrvatskim tiskanim rječnicima od 1649. do 1742. Organografsko-povijesni i sociolingvistički aspekti (1992); Kratka povijest hrvatske glazbe (2000) O 65. obljetnici života objavljena je zbirka znanstvenih članaka Muzikologija bez granica. Svečani zbornik za Stanislava Tuksara (HMD, 2010). Redoviti je član HAZU (od 2012). ZAHVALA Zahvaljujem mentoru prof. dr. sc. Stanislavu Tuksaru na savjetima, trudu i beskrajnom strpljenju prilikom nastajanja ovoga rada. Vesni Girardi Jurkić i svim židovskim glazbenicima koji su stradali u Holokaustu. SAŽETAK U doktorskome radu Glazbenici židovskoga podrijetla u sjevernoj Hrvatskoj od 1815. do 1941. godine evidentirano je i sustavno istraživano djelovanje glazbenika židovskoga podrijetla u hrvatskoj glazbenoj kulturi u 19. i prvoj polovici 20. stoljeća. U pogledu metodološkoga pristupa, iz hrvatske povijesti glazbe 19. i prve polovice 20. stoljeća izdvojeni su evidentirani glazbenici židovskoga podrijetla, te je za svakoga posebno utvrđen doprinos hrvatskoj glazbi i procijenjena njegova/njezina uloga u hrvatskoj glazbenoj kulturi. U radu se obrađuje 178 glazbenika židovskoga podrijetla u području skladanja, izvođenja glazbe, pisanja o glazbi, glazbene pedagogije, glazbenog amaterizma, te djelovanje navedenih glazbenika u medijima. Na temelju arhivske građe i relevantne historiografske literature, te analizom glazbenih djela, dobiveni podatci uobličeni su u znanstvenu cjelinu sintetičkog karaktera. S obzirom na to da dosadašnja glazbena literatura ne registrira veći dio obrađenih umjetnika važan je znanstveni doprinos ovoga rada u objedinjavanju podataka iz dosad neproučene literature i postojeće dokumentacije o životu i djelovanju glazbenika židovskoga podrijetla. U ovome je radu potvrđena hipoteza o dvjema razinama djelovanja glazbenika židovskoga podrijetla u sjevernoj Hrvatskoj od 1815. do 1941. godine. Prva razina podrazumijeva sustavno djelovanje tih glazbenika u židovskim društvima i u okviru židovskih hramova, a druga razina podrazumijeva individualna stvaralačka ostvarenja na području skladateljstva, izvodilaštva i znanosti o glazbi u širem kontekstu hrvatskoga društva. Brojnost pojave i intenzitet djelovanja glazbenika židovskoga podrijetla na hrvatskoj glazbenoj sceni najveći je u razdoblju između dvaju svjetskih ratova. Židovski su glazbenici kao ravnopravni članovi hrvatskoga društva u 19. i prvoj polovici 20. stoljeća svojim poticajnim i aktivnim djelovanjem u hrvatskoj glazbenoj kulturi podizali razinu njezine kvalitete. Kulturnim su transferima pomogli u pozicioniranju hrvatske glazbene kulture u srednjoeuropski kulturni krug. Ključne riječi: glazbenici židovskoga podrijetla, hrvatska glazbena kultura, hrvatska kultura SUMMARY MUSICIANS OF JEWISH ORIGIN IN NORTHERN CROATIA 1815 ‒ 1941 In the doctoral dissertation entitled Glazbenici židovskoga podrijetla u sjevernoj Hrvatskoj od 1815. do 1941. godine (Musicians of Jewish Origin in Northern Croatia 1815 ‒ 1941), the activity of musicians of Jewish origin within the overall Croatian music culture in the 19th and the first half of the 20th century was registered and systematically studied. The study of their active engagement in Croatian culture on the whole was inspired by the fact that artists of diverse ethnic origins have continually created and enriched the century-long music history of European countries. Among them, due to historical and socio-political circumstances, musicians of Jewish origin were actively present in diverse milieus and cultures. Consequently, based on collected and systematised data, the contribution of musicians of Jewish origin to the development of Croatian music culture in the 19th and the first half of the 20th century in the territory of Northern Croatia was established. In order to enable an interpretation of the collected data regarding their activity and to position them within Croatian culture at large, the dissertation first pictures the historical and socio-political context of Croatian lands in the 19th and the first half of the 20th century, the history of the settlement of the Jews in the territory of Northern Croatia, and the historical context of Croatian music culture in the same period. Historical and socio-political events having taken place in the period in question, that is to say, political changes in Europe and in the Habsburg Monarchy following Napoleonic Wars and the Vienna Congress of 1815, exercised considerable impact on the political, social and cultural development of Croatia. In the 19th century, Croatian population, strengthened by the ideas of the Illyric Movement and National Revival, endeavoured to resist the attempts of Hungarisation and Germanisation. Croatian society in mid 19th century ceased to be a feudal one; this was the time when civil reforms were introduced. The first non-class Parliament, which formed the fundaments for a modern state and civil society, was established. Thanks to modernisation processes and the strengthening of the bourgeois society all across Europe in the 19th century, Jewish population was gradually granted civil rights, and passed through the process of assimilation and integration into European society. As concerns Croatia, the assimilation and integration of the Jews in the territory of Northern Croatia began to be gradually realised pursuant to the Edict of Tolerance by Joseph II (1782), or rather a separate edict that was implemented in Hungary and Croatia as of 31st March 1783 under the title Systematica Gentis Judaicae Regulatio. Traditionally, the Jews tend to pay special attention to education and culture, and they build their position in the society based on the academic level of education. Hence, as early as in mid-19th century, and increasingly in the first half of the 20th century, in the attempt to shift from the professions they had initially been associated with – trade, crafts and money-making, many Jewish families began stimulating and educating their children for intellectual and artistic vocations. Following their arrival in Croatia, the Jews gradually adopted and studied the Croatian language, the fact which would lead to already the third generation of the Jews in the territory of Northern Croatia being engaged in socially well-accepted professions, such as medicine, law, technical sciences and the arts. In the 1820s, the establishment of civil music societies, which often included music schools, enabled all children, including those from Jewish families, to be musically educated. In music history and culture, it was in this particular period that the first musicians of Jewish origin were registered in Northern Croatia. As

Th e Department of Urology at the Sestre milosrdnice Uni- versity Hospital Center is the oldest urology institution in the Republic of Croatia. Th e Department was established in 1894, when the new Sestre milosrdnice Hospital was open in Vinogradska cesta in Zagreb. It was then that doctor Dragutin Mašek founded the so-called III Department, which, in addition to treating urology patients, also treated patients with conditions of the ear, nose and throat, eye diseases and dermatologic conditions. Dragutin Mašek had already realized that medicine would soon be divided into fi elds and had assigned younger doctors joining the III Department to specifi c fi elds. As a result, urology was given to Aleksandar Blašković, who founded the fi rst independent de- partment of urology in Croatia in 1926. In 1927, he was appointed Professor of urology at the Zagreb School of Medicine, where he established the fi rst department of urology and was giving lectures and practicals.

Legislative authority is vested in the unicameral Sabor (parliament). The president serves as head of state and commander of the armed forces, cooperating in formulation and execution of foreign policy; he also nominates the prime minister, who leads the government. Domestic and international observers stated that the November 2007 parliamentary elections were in accord with international standards. The government generally respected the human rights of its citizens; however, there were problems in some areas. The judicial system suffered from a case backlog, although courts somewhat reduced the number of unresolved cases awaiting trial. Intimidation of some witnesses in domestic war crimes trials remained a problem. The government made little progress in restituting property nationalized by the Yugoslav communist regime to non- Roman Catholic religious groups. Societal violence and discrimination against ethnic minorities, particularly Serbs and Roma, remained a problem. Violence and discrimination against women continued. Trafficking in persons, violence and discrimination against homosexuals, and discrimination against persons with HIV/AIDS were also reported.     Guitar Compositions from Yugoslavia volume I Copyright © Syukhtun Editions 2002 THE PLACE OF THE GUITAR IN THE MUSICAL HISTORY OF YUGOSLAVIA Uroš Dojcinovic Prologue A phenomenon increasingly present in the contemporary music of the former Yugoslav republics is the guitar. It is by no means an exaggeration to say that today a large part of the creative and interpretative work being done in our music is focused on the expressive possiblities of this plucked-string instrument. The classical guitar has already had such a long history in all the ex-Yugoslav republics, that no one would deny the esteemed place that it now occupies. On the contrary, the exploitation and appreciation of the guitar still are enjoying a marked upswing, despite the tragic developments in the 1990s which finally caused the collapse of Yugoslavia. But before taking a brief look at the guitar history of the former Yugoslavia, I feel the necessity of summarizing the general history of the area which is the subject of this volume. Prior to 1918, various foreign influences were imposed on the region of the Balkan peninsula which was later to form the nation of Yugoslavia. These influences also included oppression by the various foreign authorities. The idea of Yugoslav union was first born during the 19th century along with the appearance of economic contact with Europe. In October of l918 Croatia separated from the Austro- Hungarian Empire, and during the Croatian Congress proclaimed the SCS-state (Serbia-Croatia-Slovenia). Along with Croatia, Serbia and Slovenia, the state was later joined by Bosnia, Hercegovina, Montenegro and Vojvodina.

Do sada je osvojio prve nagrade na sljedećim natjecanjima: državno natjecanje HDGPP u Dubrovniku (2013.); međunarodno natjecanje Lazar Jovanović u Beogradu (2013. i 2014.), međunarodno natjecanje Daleki akordi, Split (2014.), međunarodno natjecanje Lav Mirski, Osijek (2015.). Nastupio je kao finalist natjecanja Lions GRAND PRIX u Rijeci 2013. godine. Dobitnik je Rektorove nagrade u akademskoj godini 2015./16. i 2016./17. 2016. debitirao je u ulozi Pallantea, u operi Agrippina, G.F.Händla, u HNK Zagreb, u produkciji Muzičke akademije; potom slijedi uloga Harašte u operi Lukava mala lisica, L.Janačeka. Nastupio je i kao jedan od deputata u operi Don Carlo, produkcija HNK Zagreb. Usavršavao se na brojnim seminarima, od kojih je vrijedno istaknuti i masterclass Thomasa Hampsona. Nastupio je kao solist uz Zagrebačku filharmoniju, Dubrovački simfonijski orkestar te Simfonijski orkestar Muzičke akademije u Zagrebu, uz suradnju s dirigentima kao što su T. Fačini, M. Tarbuk, C. He studied violin with Ljerko Spiller and harmony with Guillermo Graetzer. Followed acting and directing courses wirh Augusto Fernandes and Carlos Gandolfo. He has lived in England between 1971 and 1978, where he developed his apprenticeship in theatre direction and opera regie, and presented his first stagings. He assisted to workshops run by Lee Strasberg, Luca Ronconi, Marcel Marechal and Geoffrey Reeves. In the opera field, he followed rehearsals of productions by Giorgio Strehler, Luca Ronconi, Johannes Schaaf, Benno Besson and John Copley. From 1980 onwards he has been working in Buenos Aires where he staged many prose- theatre and opera productions, and developed his work as teacher of acting and directing. Brahms was the second child and first son of Johanna Henrika Christiane Nissen (1789–1865) and Johann Jakob Brahms (1806–72). His mother, an intelligent and thrifty woman simply educated, was a skilled seamstress descended from a respectable bourgeois family. His father came from yeoman and artisan stock that originated in lower Saxony and resided in Holstein from the mid­18th century. A resourceful musician of modest talent, Johann Jakob learnt to play several instruments, including the flute, horn, violin and double bass, and in 1826 moved to the free Hanseatic port of Hamburg, where he earned his living playing in dance halls and taverns.
