'4 _-A$ - ,;/r of the Reign of Her present Majest3>, intituled "An ,4ct for the I3etter Government of Her hhjestv's Austrdian Colonies," it was amongst other things enacted that, notwithstanding anything therein contained, it shouldbeTawfu1 for the Governor and Legis- lative Council of the Province of South Australia from time to d time by any Act or Actsmter t~r0Vi;so~dlaws for the time being it1 force under the said Act of Parliament, or otherwise concerni6 the election of the elective Members of such Legislative Pound, the qualification of electors and elective Members, or to establish in the said Province, instead of the Legislative Council, a Council and a IIouse of Representatives, or other separate Legis- lative Houses, to consist of such Members to be appointed or elected by such persons and in sucli manner as by such Act or Acts should be determined, and t,o vest in such Council and House of Representatives, or other separate Legislative Houses, the powers atid functions of the Legislative Council for which the same may be substituted: And wilereas Her Majesty hath been pleased to intimate Her most gracious intention to recommend to Parliament, the passing of an Act to repeal an Act pnascd in the Session holden in the fifth and sixth years of the Reign of IIer present Majesty, intitnled LLAnAct fbr regulating the deof Waste Lands be- longing to the Crown in the Austrdian Colonies," in order to place the disnosal of such waste lands within the said Province, and the ! approiriation of the funds arising from the ai@osaFbf, under the coutrol of the Legislature of the sajd Colon , and also to confer upon the Legislature pf ofbe sai?rProv~- -6' ee full powers D - nf of legislation in all matters affecting the same, provided that due provision be made for the support of the Government of the aaid Province, and that the constitution of the said Province be altere8'iiZZch manner as to assim~lateit to the constitu%i=f the ,United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland : And whereas it is proposed by Act of the Governor and Legislative Council of the gaid Proiince. .- to make such provision for the support of the Government of the said Province, by granting to Her Majesty, Her Heirs and Successors, a Civil List: And whereas it is expedient to exercise the powers by the said first-mentioned Act vested in the Governor kd Legidative Council of the said Province, and to g_ovide for the exercise of the increased powers posed to be vested in the Le@slnture of the said substitute for the said Legdative Council a Parliament con- sisting of a Legislative Council and Assembly, constituted, appointed, and elected as hereinafter provided : Be it therefore Enacted by the Lieutenant-Governor of the Province of South Australia, with the advice and oonsent of the Legislative Council thereof, as follows :- Repeal of 0td61;rancc l. Any question shall arise respecting any vacancy in the said Legislative Council on occasion of any of the matters afore- said, shall be referred by the Governor to the said Legislative Council, to be by the &id Legislative Council heard and deter- mined: Provided always, that it shall be lawful either for the person respeceing*wh-oseseat such question shall have arisen, or for Her Majesty's Attorney or Advocate-General for the said Province on Her Majesty's behalf, to appeal from the determination of the said Council in such case to Her Majesty, and that the judgment of Her Majesty, given with the advice of Her Privy Council thereon, shall be final and conclusive t~ all intents and purposes.

    W Some of our names have apparently been given to the places by drunken bushmen andfrom our scrupulosity in interfering with the liberty of the subject, an inflection of no light character has to be borne by those who come after them. SheaoakLog ispassable... as it has an interesting historical association connectedwith it. But what shall we say for Skillogolee Creek? Are we ever to be reminded of thin gruel days at Dotheboy’s Hall or the parish poor house. (Register, 7 October 1861, page 3c) Wabricoola - A property North -East of Black Rock; see pastoral lease no. 1634. Waddikee - A town, 32 km South-West of Kimba, proclaimed on 14 July 1927, took its name from the adjacent well and rock called wadiki where J.C. Darke was killed by Aborigines on 24 October 1844. Waddikee School opened in 1942 and closed in 1945. Aboriginal for ‘wattle’. ( See Darke Peak, Pugatharri & Koongawa, Hundred of) Waddington Bluff - On section 98, Hundred of Waroonee, probably recalls James Waddington, described as an ‘overseer of Waukaringa’. Wadella - A school near Tumby Bay in the Hundred of Hutchison opened on 1 July 1914 by Jessie Ormiston; it closed in 1926. Wadjalawi - A tea tree swamp in the Hundred of Coonarie, west of Point Davenport; an Aboriginal word meaning ‘bull ant water’. Wadmore - G.W. Goyder named Wadmore Hill, near Lyndhurst, after George Wadmore, a survey employee who was born in Plymouth, England, arrived in the John Woodall in 1849 and died at Woodside on 7 August 1918. W.R. Wadmore, Mayor of Campbelltown, was honoured in 1972 when his name was given to Wadmore Park in Maryvale Road, Campbelltown.

S BE IT ENACTED by the Governor of the State of South Australia, with the advice and consent of the Parliament thereof, as follows : 1. (1) This Act may be cited as the "Constitution Act Amendment Act, 1955". (2) The Constitution Act, 1934-1953, as amended by this Act, may be cited as the "Constitution Act, 1934-1955". (3) The Constitution Act, 1934-1953, is hereinafter referred to as "the principal Act''': . Incorporation. 2. This Act is incorporated with the principal Act and that Act and this Act shall be read as one Act. :l~ of 3.     V Many of the changes that have already taken place show that, despite early or local associations, improvements are commonly welcomed and gradually prevail. (Advertiser, 17 September 1900, page 4d) Vadhalinha Gorge - East of Beltana; Aboriginal for ‘like a grub’. Vailima Court - A subdivision of part section 256, Hundred of Adelaide, by Carl H.W. Nitschke, licensed victualler, in 1918; now included in Hackney. The original plan shows ‘Elm Court’. Vale Park - Takes its name from ‘Vale House’, purchased by Philip Levi in November 1856. In November 1947 the last surviving member of the family, Constance Levi, offered the house and ten acres of land to the Walkerville Corporation for the purpose of a public park, known, today, as ‘Levi Park’. In 1838, at the age of sixteen years, Phillip Levi arrived in Australia from Surrey in the Eden. His first job was taken with the Customs Department, but he soon combined pastoral activities with mercantile pursuits. He opened the commercial house of Philip Levi & Co. at the corner of King William and Grenfell Streets, Adelaide, where the old Imperial Hotel stood. That locality was known for many years as ‘Levi’s Corner’. For more than half a century Philip Levi, who in his early youth devoted much time and work to opening up the north, was one of the most familiar figures in Adelaide. Grazing his first flock of sheep over the now thickly populated suburbs of Prospect and Walkerville, Levi… acquired ‘Dust Holes’ near Truro. A man of remarkable energy and financial ability, with a daring speculative spirit, tempered with sound judgement, Levi, most of whose ventures were brought to a successful issue, speedily made a large fortune.

(Register, 3 August 1868, page 3c) Jabuk - The town, 11 km east of Peake, known as ‘Marmon Jabuk’ until 20 February 1941, was laid out in 1909 by William E. Cross, blacksmith of East Wellington, on section 5, Hundred of Peake. (Its nomenclature is explored under ‘Marmon Jabuk, Hundred of’) In 1910, the laying of the foundation stone of the new institute was witnessed by about 180 persons. Mr L.A. Beelitz performed the ceremony and was presented by the residents with a solid silver trowel. A luncheon was provided by the ladies: Among the speakers were Messrs L. Hannaford, Beelitz, Kirkpatrick, Millard, Featherstone, Woods, Harvey and Pastor Beaston… There is no school here but so soon as the institute is completed the committee intend to apply to the Education Department for a teacher… Blade shearing at Jabuk – circa 1920 Its school, opened as ‘Marmon Jabuk’ in 1911, was changed to Jabuk in 1941 and closed in 1964.
