Media Release Flood Update, July 2, 2014 - 11 AM

Crews will be finishing up installation of flood protection today and are nearly complete with recovery activities related to flash flooding which occurred on Monday.

Today crews will be making final flood preparations in various areas, including at Oneida Landing, at the Package Express Building adjacent to Union Station, and near the Main Street Parking Ramp. Crews will also complete installation of clay berms at S Rolf and Faragut to protect residents and businesses in and around the Garden Addition.

At this time, crews stand ready to install the walkway into . During non-game days the walkway will go in at 9am and come out at 5pm unless there is a train. In the event of a train we will make an announcement to give anyone inside a chance to come out and then pull the walkway until the train passes and then put it back in. Moving of the walkway takes approximately one hour. During game days/nights the same will hold true except we will be there until the game is over and everyone is out.

As part of the recovery effort from flash flooding that occurred on Monday, rain water that had flooded portions of the Garden Addition has been evacuated from the area and streets are now passable. The bike path along Duck Creek is scheduled to be cleaned beginning later today or tomorrow.

Access to parking for the Blues Fest will be available in the Redstone Ramp. Patrons will access the ramp going the wrong way from 3rd to Brady St. Signage and cones will be set later today or early tomorrow to direct traffic to the ramp. There is a parking fee of $5 per vehicle entry into the ramp. The special event map for this event can be found on the city’s website.

Public Works will be placing a map on street closures due to flooding later this afternoon.

Residents in areas affected by river stages of 13ft to 22ft may still contact Public Works at 326-7923 to make a request for sand and sandbags.

The River’s Edge is closed. Parks and Recreation customer service has been moved to the Vander Veer Park Conservatory. The Davenport Compost Facility and Union Station are closed until further notice. The casino is closed until floodwaters recede to below 17ft. Freight House Farmer’s Market will be holding the Farmer’s Market in the parking lot of the Scott County Administration Office located at 600 W 4th Street. All other vendors located at the Freight House complex are open for business and limited parking will be accessible from Ripley during the flood.

Crews will remain on 24/7 maintenance operations to monitor flood protection in place. Public Works will update the public as changes in river stages occur and flood control measures are placed. The public can find up to date information and check river levels at cityofdavenportiowa.com/flood.

Inquiries may also be made to Public Works Director Mike Clarke at 563.326.7734.
