JOBTITLES: Tier 2 Minister of Religion (Head Priest)

Khalsa Centre Gurudwara (Tooting) is looking to appoint an Amritdhari Gur-Sikh Minister of Religion (Head Priest).

Applicant must be a practicing Baptist Sikh and be fluent in reading Holy Sikh text to preach and conduct pastoral work.

The applicant must be able to lead a congregation in performing rites and rituals and preaching the essentials of / .

QUALIFICATIONS: Competent, Experienced priest with in-depth knowledge of Guru Granth Sahib and Sikh Scriptures/ Sikh history.

SKILLS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities of the post will include: -

• Be able to perform the duties of a Granthi; • Must have the skills of a Paatthi (be able to read and translate the holy Scriptures, Guru Granth Sahib ji), • Be able to sing prayers and hymns from the Sikh Holy book ( Guru Granth Sahib ji), • Be able to interpret and preaching the meaning of the (sacred hymns in Guru Granth Sahib ji ), • Deliver and carryout daily sermons to the holy congregation (Sangat) and do all the duties relating to the care of Guru Granth Sahib ji as the “living Guru” at ceremonial occasions. • Hold sermons, know the language of the country and carry out extrovert religious duties including those relating to the interfaith aspect. • It is desirable but not essential that a Granthi/ Priest be able to sing the sacred hymns i.e. musical proficiency is not a requirement; • To translate religious texts, be proficient with leading regular daily prayers of worship as well as on special occasions; • To manage and perform official duties by carrying out prayers for religious occasions at marriages, funerals and other special services; • Provide religious education to children and adults by delivering and/or teaching the principles of the religion; • Offering counselling and welfare support to members of the congregation. • The applicant will be expected to represent the by attending place of venue of the Sikh Congregation to carry out prayers for family functions, chanting daily prayers morning and evening in accordance with the daily program at the Gurdwara.

Applicant must be hardworking and able to work in a team, as well as own initiative.

Language: The successful applicant must be able to speak, read and write in Punjabi and English. WAGES/ACCOMMODATION /HOURS OF DUTY /CONTRACT PERIOD: Please note: Food, accommodation, and laundry is provided by the Gurdwara under contract terms. The contract will be a fixed term for up to 24 months. (Hours of duty 30 hours per week (FULL Time) @ £10.00 per hour. The employer claims an exception under the Equality Act 2010.

HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENT: Statutory holiday entitlement
