Reactor Way, Reno , NV. Do you want to be on the first string and stay there? Training, more than ever, will improve your value, to the contractor, on the job site. THINK ABOUT IT! Page 2 Laborers’ Local 169 Ruby Pipeline Watch The Union has been keeping a close watch and listening for any hard news about when the Ruby Pipeline will actually start. As far as we can tell at this point the project is still scheduled to start late June to July 2010. Pipe is still being stockpiled in Gerlach, Golconda and Elko in Nevada. The Union is waiting to get the pre-job notice, that is when we will get some hard information about the start dates on the project. As soon as we know more information we will pass that on to you in a future newsletter. Laborers Master Agreement 2010 Negotiations As many of you know the Laborers’ Master Agreement is up for negotiations this summer. The Union has been having some non-binding, exploratory discussions with the A.G.C. In the last newsletter we outlines a strategic plan for the Laborers’ Agreement under the current economic conditions. We are currently looking at a more competitive rate, on certain projects, in order to try to win more work for our contractors, and our members in certain markets. Any new package rate will be temporary and strictly voluntary. There are some other changes proposed in the termination language, and classifications covered by the agreement that will strengthen our organization in the future. The Union contemplates that the rest of the agreement will be extended for up to five years with a wage opener in January 2011. The first actual negotiation meeting is planned for May 19, 2010. A ratification meeting may be scheduled for as early as the week of May 24, 2010. The Union will send a separate post card notice to all active or non-retiree members for any ratification meeting that may be scheduled. Primary Election - Union Recommendation Vote Guide As you know the Union is a non-partisan organization. This vote guide provides our members and their families recommendations based on who is the best candidates on the issues most important to Union members, working people and their families. Some of our endorsed candidates do not have a primary, so their names may not appear on the ballot, and not all of the candidates will be on every persons sample ballot based on where you live. For example the candidate for Assembly District 40, which is mostly Carson City, will not be on the ballot for people that live in Sparks. People living in Sparks or other areas could have different Assembly or County Commissioner candidates depending where you live and what party you are registered as, so check the full list carefully when marking your sample ballot. If you have any questions you can always call the Union hall. As I have repeatedly and consistently stated, who these people are and what they stand for really does matter to us, on many levels. As you know I am also running for the Nevada Legislature in Assembly District 31. In the conversations I have had with our members there is no question that I will be the best candidate to represent the issues important to Union members at the Legislature. The next question I get asked is “will you be leaving the Union?” The answer is NO! Nevada has a citizen legislature. Most of our legislators have other jobs, that they keep while serving in the legislature, so it will be no different for me.

  • Administration of Barack Obama, 2011 Remarks at a Town
Administration of Barack Obama, 2011 Remarks at a Town Hall Meeting and a Question-and-Answer Session in Reno, Nevada April 21, 2011 The President. Thank you. Hello, Reno! Thank you. Thank you so much. Please, everybody have a seat. It is great to be back here in Reno, great to be back in Nevada. I am thrilled that all of you are here. We've got some special, special people that I want to acknowledge. First of all, I want to thank ElectraTherm for hosting us, and John Fox, the CEO of ElectraTherm, is here; Stephen Olson, the president and CFO of ElectraTherm. Thank you very much. They just had a chance to meet me backstage, and they were describing all the great work that they are doing. I am told the contraption behind me here is known as the Green Machine, produces renewable energy from low-temperature heat waste. And John and Stephen were explaining to me how it works, and I was nodding, pretending like I understood what they were saying. [Laughter] Actually, I have no idea how it works, but I'm glad it does work. [Laughter] And I want to congratulate ElectraTherm for being a fine example of a clean energy company that's been growing by leaps and bounds over the last few years. Give yourselves a big round of applause. In addition, we've got some people who are here. Somebody who's working hard for you, Congresswoman Shelley Berkley is here. Mayor Bob Cashell is here. Lieutenant Governor Brian Krolicki is here.

The record copy of the interview transcript is printed on archival quality paper and on file with the Research Library of the Legislative Counsel Bureau in Carson City, Nevada. PROJECT INTRODUCTION The 2007 Nevada Legislature approved an appropriation for a project of conducting oral histories with former state legislators, and in the summer following the conclusion of the session, the Research Division of the Legislative Counsel Bureau (LCB) conducted a competitive bid process to identify and obtain a contractor to carry out the project. A committee consisting of LCB and other state personnel with expertise in Nevada history and politics evaluated and ranked the proposals received. In January 2008, a contract was signed between LCB and Get Consensus, LLC, for an 18-month program. Administered by Donald O. Williams, Research Director, and coordinated by Amber Joiner, Senior Research Analyst, the Nevada Legislature Oral History Project consists of video- and audio-taped interviews, which have been transcribed, edited for readability, and indexed. An initial list of suggested interview subjects had been presented to the Senate Committee on Finance when it considered Senate Bill 373, which proposed an appropriation for the creation of an oral history of the Nevada Legislature.
