As the largest business organization in Northern Nevada, we bring long standing traditions of supporting, promoting and advocating for businesses of all sizes within the Truckee Meadows. The Chamber is the voice of business and an advocate of legislative issues that will benefit the business community. I encourage you to read our “Agenda for Economic Vitality”, which can be found at www.thechambernv.org, to see the issues that we feel are critical to the success of our business community. Our relationships with Nevada, Washoe County, Reno and Sparks officials are strong and we are a respected organization throughout the region. One of our primary goals is to bring community leaders together to create solutions for issues impacting business and improving the community where we all live. We support the growth of the area by helping businesses make more informed decisions and provide them broader exposure throughout the area. Our events are designed to educate and inform and most importantly, provide interaction with other business professionals. I know connections I have made through The Chamber have helped me immeasurably in my career. Events like the Governor’s Conference on Small Business, Directions and the Health Care Forum provide strong focus on specific issues confronting businesses and the community. Mixers, ribbon cuttings, Biz Talk Blenders, Biz Flash and Desayuno provide great opportunities to network with other professionals and expand your business reach. Leadership Reno-Sparks is a 9 month community leadership program that has run for decades in the area and has a strong alumni base, including Governor Brian Sandoval. We also support the efforts of the Economic Development Authority of Northern Nevada (EDAWN) as they attract new businesses into the area. Like all things with The Chamber, you reap what you sow. When you join The Chamber, participate. Be active and engage as much as you can. When our members participate they find great value in the events, advocacy and education the Chamber provides. For our all our members, thank you for your support of The Chamber and for making our community a better place to live and do business. Jim McClenahan Director of Corporate Outreach and Engagement University of Nevada, Reno, College of Business Chair, The Chamber, Reno, Sparks, Northern Nevada THE CHAMBER Reno • Sparks • Northern Nevada 5 WELCOME Message from the Executive Director As we move forward and begin 2014 with great optimism, it’s easy to get inundated with change. Between New Year’s resolutions and everyone jumping on the habit breaking bandwagon, it’s easy to see how change can seem daunting and overwhelming. Well, I’m here to tell you if it ain’t broke don’t fix it! As the Executive Director of The Chamber, I promise to never change but only improve the wonderful opportunities and offerings the chamber has built its core foundation on. During 2013, we worked hard to develop new chamber initiatives, goals and enhancements thanks to the dedication of many community individuals who selflessly worked to offer our members more opportunities. Together , we have definitely seen out share of change- change in the number of businesses we get to serve, changes in the number of events we get to connect with our members at and a change in the increased amount of resources we have to offer. When we look to change, we strive to improve our already amazing benefits we offer, increase the resources and business building tools and provide even more programs to develop your workforce through leadership and education. Through this ongoing change, we have added more staff to help act as liaisons and resources for your businesses. We still continue to move through the webbing of government issues that impact your businesses through advocacy and education. Our marketing and communications have grown stronger allowing you more opportunities to showcase your product and brand through sponsorship and advertising. We continue to grow through diversity outreach and multicultural events which highlight the strength of one voice for business. We also continue to impact the many issues we support such as education, economic development and business growth within northern Nevada. Finally, let’s not forget the ongoing outreach and community involvement that the chamber encourages, supports and participates in. The changes here are only in the amount of support from our members that help make our causes that much more visible and the outpour of generosity that much more emotional. I can’t express the amount of pride I feel when I look at what our chamber has transformed into in such a short amount of time. With that being said, please let me be the first one in 2014 to say “thank you” for not changing your loyalty with The Chamber. When I give you my pledge that 2014 is going to be an amazing year for The Chamber, I mean that we are YOUR chamber, YOUR voice and YOUR Representation. Cheers to 2014 and we look forward to moving forward with you.
