Kanec soon found himself on pop-star, Justin Bieber's, World Tour. Kanec can be seen working with multi-platinum selling recording artist Missy Elliott, while performing on the 2015 Katy Perry SuperBowl Halftime Show. Kanec has also performed with Nicki Minaj, Usher, Chris Brown and Nick Jonas to name a few. He has also been a featured dancer in multiple movies and television shows (Step Up, FAME, Hairspray, BunHeads, Glee) and performed on many high profile stages such as the Grammys and the Oscars as well as many other musical Award Shows! MELISSA MITRO started dancing at the age three and competed in almost every form of dance. She has performed at the Toronto International Film Festival and featured with artists around the world such as PSY, Nick Jonas, Nelly Furtado, Serena Ryder, Mia Martina, Morgan Page, Victoria Duffield, Tyler Medeiros and Azari & III. Melissa has worked with Mia Micheals, Stacey Tookey, Mandy Moore, Travis Wall, Teddy Forance and many more. A runner-up on CTV’s So You Think You Can Dance Canada Season 4, Melissa has performed at the Pan American Games in Mexico, YTV’s The Next Step, Russell Peter’s Christmas Special, the Nick Carter tour, the Juno Awards, Global TV’s New Years Eve Bash with Nelly Furtado, and the Much Music Video Awards. Recently, she traveled to Milan, Croatia, Spain, Finland, Mexico and Poland to perform in many Salsa Congresses with Marco Ferrigno and his group Ansima Production Ballet. Recently, she worked as a choreographer on SYTYCD in Vietnam. JUSTIN JACKSON is the 9 time tap dancing champion of Canada. Justin made memorable appearances as a soloist on TV shows such as; So You Think You Can Dance Canada, The Breakfast Television Show, CTV live morning show in Edmonton, Postcards From Buster (PBS Kids), La Vie est Un Cirque (Aired in Europe & France) and The nationally syndicated Wendy Williams Show in New York City! The peculiar mixture of larger-than-life personas and the feelings of connection and intimacy they inspire are formed and spread through mass media (Rojek 2001). Thus, as media changes, so does celebrity. In the last two decades, we have seen dramatic changes in the concept of celebrity from one related solely to mass and broadcast media to one that reflects a more diverse media landscape; for instance, reality television has both revealed the mundane day-to-day lives of pop stars and sitcom actors as it simultaneously transforms ordinary people into celebrities (Kavka 2012). More recently, media technologies like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Vine, and Instagram have enabled both famous and non-famous people to generate vast quantities of personal media, manipulate and distribute this content widely, and reach out to (real or imagined) audiences. The contemporary shift from broadcast to participatory media, and the popularity of social media technologies among young people, have contributed to two major changes in celebrity culture. First, “traditional” celebrities have embraced social media to create direct, unmediated relationships with fans, or at least the illusion of such. In this project, conceptualizing the ways in which women express their identity through everyday enactments of life in public and at home is examined through case studies of performances from four female youtubers. The platform’s emerging content, new practices of creative control, and distribution are shaping production, consumption, and the conversation about feminism and gender identity. Through the lenses of visual analysis, media ecology, critical feminist media studies, and performativity of gender, the study examines the established ways in which four women on YouTube enact their identities online, picking and choosing which identifiers, qualities, characteristics, and actions are shared in an effort to personify their chosen self. I first use a critical feminist framework and perform a qualitative visual analysis of YouTube videos from female YouTube creators. Findings include the setting and negotiating of content templates, collaboration, use of YouTube trending content, revealing intersectional identifiers, using comedic frames, dismantling the male gaze, and catchphrases. Secondly, an exploration and analysis are done on the media ecology of the YouTube Studio.
