First year of the award ceremony was dedicated to European legends and their achievements and the 1st Golden Pawn Award Ceremony took place on 30th November in historical Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo. Karlovych (UKR) MATTERS DISCUSSED At the beginning of the meeting, we addressed the items discussed in the official WOM report submitted to FIDE. The Chairperson (Ms. Polgar) especially praised FIDE for the Women’s World Blitz and Rapid Championships in Saudi Arabia which had a substantially increased prize fund, though it was only one third of the prize in the Open section. The total prize fund in the Women’s championships were $250,000 for each event. Beatriz Marinello reported on her project “Smart Girl” on behalf of the Social Action commission, which included projects in Uganda, Chile, France and the US. This projects seeks to increase participation by girls in chess in those countries. Martha Fierro elaborated on the project about chess in women prisons in Genoa, Italy, which involved the training of refugees in Italy who in turn, train women prisoners. Sophia Rohde from the United States shared some of the work their federation is in doing to promote chess for girls in the USA. They subsequently presented a video showing various interviews with young girls in chess, highlighting the benefits and challenges that they experience in chess.

EVENTS 1.1 Women's World Chess Championship 2017 Teheran, Iran, 10 FEBRARY – 5 MARCH 2017. Women’s World Chess Championship was held in the Espinos Palace Hotel in Tehran, Iran, from February 10 (day of arrival) to March 4 (day of departure) 2017. 63 players (excluding Ms.Foisor, who passed away just few weeks before championship) from 28 countries participated in the WWCC2017. A tournament was played according to the knock-out system of 6 rounds, according to the FIDE WCC regulations for the event (FIDE Handbook, D 07).

Anna Muzychuk: There were a number of things that helped me advance in chess and it's actually a combination of several factors. First of all, I started playing at a very early age – when I was two years old! Also, from a very young age my parents invested a lot of time and worked very hard to help me obtain achievements. Another thing is the motivation you get when you start winning tournaments. I started winning Eur opean Championships for kids from the age of 6, the motivation boosts you continue working hard and win more competitions. Last but not least, If you like chess you just keep going. In other words, it's a combination of great passion and love for the game, hard work, and successes from the beginning of my career that pushed and motivated me. These are the 3 main things, in my opinion. Inbar: Do you consider yourself to be more of an attacking/tactical or more of a positional player? Anna Muzychuk: I addressed this earlier in a way. I am a more active player. I do not like playing defensively. I aim for an interesting game, initiative, combinations, attack, etc. Keren: Who is the player you most associate with his/her style of play? Anna Muzychuk: Maybe I'm wrong, but among the modern players I think that my style is most similar to the one of Fabiano Caruana.

The most important achievements of “Polonia Chess”: • Successes of the grandmasters representing Polonia: • 5 times finishing second (1997, 1999, 2001, 2003 and 2005) and once third (2002) in the European Chess Club Cup; • 8 times in a row (1999-2006) team championship of Poland; • our players have won 24 medals in Polish Individual Championships, including 7 gold, 11 silver and 4 bronze medals; • GM Bartlomiej Macieja became European Champion in 2002 (the greatest individual success in the history of Polish chess after the Second World War); • WGM Beata Kadziolka won the bronze medal at the World Championship 2005; • the players of Polonia have had qualified for the World Championships and World Cups: Micha∏ Krasenkow and Bart∏omiej Macieja (six times), Monika Soçko (three times), Robert Kempiƒski and Mateusz Bartel (twice),

Jordan (GER), M. Fierro (ECU), F. Dapiran (ITA), M. Abol-Khair (EGY), G. El Sahar (EGY), O. Boytsun (UKR), G. Borg (MLT), D. Menendoz (ECU), M . Castro Solano (CRC) Susan Polgar opened the session and passed the word to Alexandra Kosteniuk. Alexandra reported about the work of the WOM from the FIDE Congress in Halkidki in 2009 till nowaday. From October 2009 till October 2010 the WOM has done many things to promote women’s chess in the world. Several Goodwill events took place in March 2010, conducted by the secretary of the women’s commission Martha Fierro. One FIDE Trainer’s Seminar, jointly organized by FIDE Women's Commission and FIDE Trainers Commission in association with US Chess Federation and American Chess University, was held May 7-9, 2010 in Atlanta, USA. The WOM received 2 invitations for women players to participate with all their expenses covered in a closed WIM norm and 1 for WGM closed (also with everything cover) in the closed tournament in Guingamp, France. FIDE Caissa Award was awarded to Nadezhda Kosintseva. From this year on this award will be given to the best players of the preceding year. The new voting will start in January 2011. From 2010 the WOM awards the women’s golden organizer award. This year the award went to the international women’s tournament of the 8 th March of Belgrade, Serbia which takes place yearly in the Spring.
