THE PASCHAL PROCLAMATION Longer form of the Paschal Proclamation

The , after incensing the book and the candle, proclaims the Proclamation (Exsultet) at the ambo or at a lectern, with all standing and holding lighted candles in their hands. The Easter Proclamation may be made, in the absence of a Deacon, by the himself or by another concelebrating Priest. If, however, because of necessity, a lay cantor sings the Proclamation, the words Therefore, dearest friends up to the end of the invitation are omitted, along with the greeting The Lord be with you. The Proclamation may also be sung in the shorter form.

œ œ œœ œ œ œ œ œœ œ œœ œ œ œœ á & Ex - ult, let them ex-ult, the hosts of heav-en, ex - ult, let Angel

œ & á œ œ œœ œ œ œ œ œ œ œœ œ œ minis - ters of God ex-ult, let the trum-pet ofœ sal-va-tionœ soundœ œ & œ œ œ œ œœ œ œ œœ œ œ œ œ a-loud our might-yœ King's tri-umph!œœ œ Be glad, let earth be glad, as

œœ œ œœ œ œ œœ á œ œ œœ œ œ & glo-ry floods her, a-blaze with light from her e - ter-nal King, œ œ œ œ œ œœ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œœ & let all cor-ners ofœ theœ earth be glad, know-ingœ an end to gloomœ and œ œ œ œœ á œ œ œ á & dark-ness.œœ œ Re-joice, let Mother Church al-so re-joice, arrayed with

á œ œ œœ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ & the lightning of his glo-ry, let this ho-ly build-ingœœ œ shakeœ with joy,

œ œ & œ á œ œ œ œ œ œœ œ œ filledœ with the might-y voic-es of the peo-ples.œ œ ( There-fore, á á œ œ œ œ œ œ œœ œ œ & dearest friends, standing in the awe-some glo-ry of this ho-ly light,

œ œœ œ œ œ œœ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ & in-voke with me, I ask you, the mer-cy ofœ God al-might-y,œœ œ

œœ á œ œ œ œ & thatœ he, who has been pleased to number me, though un-wor-thy,

œ œ œ œœ œ œœ á œœ œ œœ œ & a - mong the Le-vites, mayœ pour into me his light un-shad-owed,

œ á œ œ œ œ & that I may sing this can-dle'sœ per-fect prais-es.œœ œ )

œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ & (V. Theœ Lordœ be with you. R. Andœ withœ your spir-it.)

œœ œœ œ œ œ œœ œ œ œ œ œ & V. Lift up your hearts.œ R. We lift them up to the Lord.œ

œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ & V. Let us giveœ thanks to the Lordœœ our God.œ R. It is rightœ andœ just.œœ

á á œœ œ & Itœ is truly right and just, withœ ardent love of mind andœ heart andœ

á œ œ œ œ á œ œ œ œ œ & with devoted service of our voice, to acclaim our God in-vis-i-ble,

á œœ œ œ á œ œ œ & the al - might-yœ œFa-ther, and Christ, our Lord,œ his Son, his œ œ œ œœ œ œ á & Onœ - œly Be-got-ten. Who for our sake paid Adam's debt to the e-

œœ œ œœ œ œ á œœ œ œ œ œ & -ter-nal Fa-ther, and, pouring out his own dear Blood, wiped clean

œ œ œ œ œ œ œœ œ œ œœ œ œ œ œœ & the re-cord of ourœ œan-cient sin-ful-ness. These thenœ are the feasts

œ œœ œ œ œ á œ œ œ œ œœ œ œ & of Pass-o-ver, in which is slain the Lamb, the one true Lamb,

á œ œ œ œœ œ œœœœœ œœ œ & whose Blood anoints the door - postsœ œof be-liev-ers. This is the

œ œ á œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œœ œ & night, when once you led our fore-bears, Is-ra-el's chil-dren,

á œ œ œ œ á œ œ & from slaver - y in E-gypt and made them pass dry - shodœ throughœ

œ œœ œ œœœ œœ œ œ œ á œ œ œ œ & the Red Sea. Thisœ is the night that with a pil-lar of fire

á œ œ œ œ á & banished the dark-nessœœ œœ of sin.œ This is theœ night thatœ even now,

á á œ œ & throughout the world, sets Christian believers apart from world-ly

œ œ á œœ œ œ œœœ œ œœ œ œ œ & vic-es and from the gloom of sin, lead-ingœ them to grace and œ œ œ œ œ œœ œ œ œœœœœ œœ œ œ œ & join-ing themœ œto his ho-ly ones. This is the night, when

á œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ & Christ broke the prison - bars of death and rose vic-to-ri - ousœ

œ œ œœ œ œ œ á œ œ œ & fromœ the un-der-world. Our birth would have been no gain,

á œ œ œ œ œœœ á œœ œ œœ & had we notœ beenœ re-deemed. O wonder of your hum-ble care

œ œ œ á œ œ œ œ œœ œ œœ œ á œ & for us! O love, O char-i - ty be - yond all tell-ing, to ran - som

œ œ á œ œ œ œ œ á œ œ œ œ œœ œ & a slave you gave aœ - wayœ your Son! O tru-ly nec-es-sar-y sin of

œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œœ & Ad-am,œ de - stroyedœ com-plete-ly byœ theœ Deathœœ of Christ!œ œO

œœ œ œ á œ œ œ œ œ œœ œ & hap-py fault that earned so great, so glo-ri - ousœ œ a Re-deem-er!

œœœœœ á œœ œ œ œ á œœ œ & O truly bless-ed night, wor-thy alone to know the time and

œ á œ œ œ œœ œ œ œ œ œ œ & hour when Christ roseœ fromœ the un-der-world! This is the night

œ œ œ œ œœ œ œ á œœ œ œ & of which it is writ-ten: The night shall be as bright as day, á œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œœ œ œ á & dazzling is the night for me, andœ fullœ of glad-ness. The sanctifying

á œ œ œ œœœ œ œœ œ œ á œœ œ œ & power of this night dis - pelsœ wick-ed-ness, washes faults a-way,

œ á œ œ œœ œ œ œ œ œœ œ œœœ & re-stores innocence to the fall-en, andœ joyœ to mourn-ers, drives

œ œœ œ œœ œ œœ œ œ œ œ œ œœ œ & outœ ha-tred, fos-ters con-cord, and bringsœ downœ the might-y.

á œ œ œ œ á & Onœ this, your night of grace, O ho-ly Fa-ther, accept this candle, a

œœ œ œœ œ œ œ á œœ œ œ & sol-emn of-fer-ing, the work of bees and of your serv-ants' hands,

á œ œ œ á œœ œœ œ & an evening sacri - fice of praise, this gift from your most ho - ly

œ œ á œ œ œœ œ á & Church. But now we know the praises of this pil-lar, which glow-

á œ œ œ œœ œ œ á œœ & -ing fire ig - nitesœ forœ God's hon-or, a fire into many flames

œ œœ œ œ œ œ œ á œ œ œ œ œ á & di-vid-ed, yet nev-er dimmed by shar - ingœ œof its light, for it is

á œœ œ œ á œ œ œ á œ œ & fed by melt-ing wax, drawn out by moth-er bees to build aœ torchœ œ œœ œ œœœ á œœ œ œ œ á & so pre-cious. O truly bless-ed night, when things of heaven

á œ œ œ á œ œ œ œœ œ & are wed to those of earth, and di - vineœ œto the hu-man.

á œœ œ œ á á & There-fore,œ O Lord, weœ prayœ you thatœ this candle, hallowed to the

á œ œ œ œ á œœ œ œ á & honor of your name, may perse - vere un-dimmed, to overcome

á œ œ œ œ œ á œœ œ œœ œ & the dark - nessœ œof this night. Re-ceive it as a pleas-ing fra-grance,

œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œ œœ œ œœœ œ œœ & and let it min-gle with theœ lightsœ of heav-en. May thisœ flame

á œ œ œ œœ œ œ œ á & be found still burn - ingœ œby the Morn-ing Star: the one Morning

á œœ œ œ œ á á & Star who nev-er sets, Christ your Son, who, coming back from

œ œ œ á œ œ œ œœ œ œ œ & death's do-main, has shed his peaceful light on hu-man-i - ty, and

œ œ œ œ œœ œœ œ œœ œ œ œœ & lives and reigns for ev - er and ev - er. R. A - men.
