  • Olympic Canoe/Kayak Flatwater Medals & USA Results
Olympic Canoe/Kayak Flatwater Medals & USA Results By Dan Henderson The goal of this paper is to provide the reader with a clear understanding of the history of USA Canoe/Kayak Sprint performance, and where it is trending. From the data it’s clear that the USA Team international performance has been in decline, and there’s not much farther down to go. The American Canoe Association, the National Governing Body for canoe/kayak racing in the United States, is tasked with a turnaround project to stop the decline and improve performance. I believe there’s a set of solutions and that those of us within the sport now can find it: that we can provide the opportunities for American youth to prepare for and successfully compete with the best in the world, that given the opportunity many American youth will step up to the challenge and prepare and compete. Fundamental is that national leadership initiate a discussion involving all stakeholders as to what is to be accomplished, and how to develop performance based structures and programs, to build an attitude of confidence and high expectations to move our nation’s performance forward in a positive direction. It is my hope that this paper will initiate that discussion. • 2018 Canoe Sprint & Marathon Handbook
£6 2018 Canoe Sprint & Marathon Handbook NEW for 2018 - Racing Coach Award At the start of 2014, the British Canoeing Coaching Strategy Group initiated a review of our qualifications. This resulted in proposals to revise the structure, with a phased approach to the development (and implementation) of the various components. The first phase focused on the Club Activity Assistant, piloted at the start of 2016. This was followed by developments within the Leadership strand, including a new Paddlesport Leader Award, rebranding of the 4 and 5 Star awards, and the introduction of a Guide scheme; all launched April 2017. This next phase focuses on the development of the qualifications previously pitched at UKCC Level 2. The development is, in the main, focused on a restructuring and creating discipline specific pathways available across all disciplines. This will significantly change the prerequisites and the pathway through taught and assessed elements. Direct entry to the Racing Coach Award, removal of the portfolio and specific deliverers. The ‘Coach Awards’ will supersede the current Level 2, Moderate/Advanced Water Endorsements, and Discipline Support Modules. The qualifications are designed for people whose core function is to coach paddlers who want to gain/improve paddlesport skills within the discipline chosen. This will include coaching beginners new to the sport, or paddlers looking to develop their skills in the given discipline/environment.
