This marks the 13 th annual version of the CJHL Prospects match-up with Team West having won seven times overall while Team East has come away victorious on five occasions. Last year’s event in Cornwall, Ont., saw Team West win by a 4-3 score. THE ROSTERS: Each of the players selected to participate in this evening’s contest were selected in conjunction with NHL Central Scouting and features 40 of the top draft eligible CJHL prospects available to be selected for the 2018 NHL Draft in Dallas. THE OFFICIALS: The officials for tonight’s game, as assigned by the Canadian Junior Hockey League, are referees Dan Ransom and Josh Schein while Will Dykeman and Jeremy Makoh will serve as the linesmen. ROSTER CHANGES: Team East has seen two roster changes made since the original 20 players were announced previously. Named to the Team East line-up earlier this month was Toronto Patriots (OJHL) forward Colton Kalezic who replaces Derek Dicaire, who recently signed with the Baie-Comeau Drakkar of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League after playing the first half of the 2017- 18 for the Braves de Valleyfield (LHJAAAQ). Through his first 35 outings this season with the Patriots, the 18-year-old Kalezic is averaging over a point-per-game with 40 in total on 21 goals and 19 assists. Meanwhile added to the Team East line-up over the weekend was Wellington Dukes (OJHL) defenceman Declan Carlile who replaces fellow blueliner Dustyn McFaul of the Pickering Panthers (OJHL), who is unable to participate due to an upper body injury. Hailing from Brooklyn, Mich., the 17-year-old Carlile has picked up 29 points through 44 games for Wellington so far this season, including six goals. THE COACHES: John Dean of the Toronto Patriots (OJHL) and Joe Martin of the Merritt Centennials (BCHL) are serving as the head coaches of Team East and Team West respectively for the CJHL Prospects Game. TEAM EAST HEAD COACH – JOHN DEAN (TORONTO PATRIOTS/OJHL): The 36-year-old Dean made his international coaching debut as an assistant coach with Canada East at the World Jr. A Challenge in Truro, N.S. … He is in his first season as head coach of the Toronto Patriots (OJHL) after three years as an assistant with the OHL’s North Bay Battalion. … A former finalist for OJHL Coach of the Year, Dean was head coach of the North York Rangers from 2011-14, prior to which he spent two years as an assistant. … He was a regional scout for Team Canada East ahead of the 2014 World Junior A Challenge, and served as a guest coach at the 2013 camp. TEAM WEST HEAD COACH – JOE MARTIN (MERRITT CENTENNIALS/BCHL): Martin recently served as an assistant coach for Canada West at the World Jr. A Challenge where he helped that side capture a gold medal. … Martin has spent the last seven seasons with the Merritt Centennials (BCHL), and is in his third campaign there as head coach and general manager. Martin, 36, was a guest coach for Canada West ahead of the 2016 WJAC. … He previously coached in the 2009 CJHL Prospects Game and was an assistant coach for Team Yukon at the 2007 Canada Winter Games. … He was also tabbed KIJHL Coach of the Year in 2010-11. GUEST COACHES: Serving as guest coaches for tonight’s contest is a pair of Toronto Maple Leafs legends in Rick Vaive (Team East) and Wendel Clark (Team West). TEAM EAST – RICK VAIVE: The first member of the Maple Leafs to score 50 goals in a season, back during the 1981-82 campaign, Vaive accomplished the feat three times as part of his 14-year NHL career that saw him amass 788 points in 876 games, including 441 goals. As a coach Vaive spent five years behind the bench of the South Carolina Stingrays of the ECHL where he led his club to a league championship in 1996-97. He also coached in the American Hockey League for two seasons as well as in the Ontario Hockey League. TEAM WEST – WENDEL CLARK: Arguably one of the most popular players to ever compete with the Toronto Maple Leafs, Clark’s retired No. 17 hangs from the rafters of the Air Canada Centre. He is also one of 14 former Maple Leafs’ greats to be recognized with a statue outside of the ACC in Legends Row. Clark spent 16 seasons in the NHL; 13 in Toronto. In 793 NHL games, Clark scored 330 times and added 234 assists for 564 points. BENCH STAFF: Joining Team East head coach John Dean of the Toronto Patriots (OJHL) and guest coach; former Toronto Maple Leafs captain Rick Vaive, as an assistant coach will be Oakville Blades (OJHL) bench boss Mike Tarantino. Meanwhile Craig Clayton of the Oakville Blades (OJHL) is serving as equipment manager; Amanda Gilroy of the Whitby Fury (OJHL) is Team East’s athletic therapist while Adam Bendall of the Mississauga Chargers (OJHL) will provide equipment support. As for Team West, Mississauga Chargers (OJHL) head coach Joe Washkurak will work as an assistant to the club’s head coach Joe Martin of the Merritt Centennials (BCHL) and Toronto Maple Leafs legend and guest coach Wendel Clark. Rounding out the Team West staff with equipment manager Mike Aloe of the Burlington Cougars (OJHL) and athletic therapist Jessica Frame of the Buffalo Jr. Sabres (OJHL). BROADCAST CREW: Calling this evening’s CJHL Prospects Game on HockeyTV.com will be Prashant Naikwadi, who will be providing all the play-by-play action, while Pat Gregoire will offer the colour commentary. MID-TERM RANKINGS: NHL Central Scouting released its mid-term rankings Monday for the 2018 Draft in Dallas and 20 members from Canadian Junior Hockey League teams earned their way of the list. Among that group is 17 skaters and three goaltenders. The highest ranked position player was Toronto Jr. Canadiens (OJHL) centre Jack McBain at 29 th overall among North American skaters. He was followed by defencemen Stanislav Demin of the Wenatchee Wild (BCHL); Jonathon Tychonick of the Penticton Vees (BCHL); Jacob Bernard-Docker of the Okotoks Oilers (AJHL) and Seth Barton of the Trail Smoke Eaters (BCHL) who were tabbed 32 nd , 45 th , 62 nd and 81 st respectively.
