Stuff like that. Today, based on a suggestion by Devon S. Earlier, I did a bit about when Martian Manhunter first became obsessed with Oreos. Since I was doing that, I figure I might as well just do the "Blue and Gold" question that I had been meaning to do for years someone else other than Devon might have requested it, as well. The problem is that I didn't really know the answer off hand but I also was pretty sure it WASN'T all that early, so it would mean just sitting down and reading through a bunch of comics until I hit upon the answer. That takes a lot of time, but, well, whatever, I did the Martian Manhunter one so I guess I'll do this one, too! They all told him to take a hike, but after Booster Booster Gold: Blue and Gold his mettle in Booster Gold: Blue and Gold next issue, the League decided to let him join. They didn't really interact over the next few issues, but then that brought us to Justice League International 8, Booster Gold: Blue and Gold is the issue where the book cemented Booster Gold: Blue and Gold status as a sitcom comic book. And right on the cover, Beetle and Booster were paired together And in the comic itself, they were put together and they had instant comedic chemistry, leading to the introduction of the famous "Bwah Ha Ha" They were now fully a team and they continued to be paired together for the next year or so and since the book was very popular, they, too, became a very popular duo. However, the fans did not pick up on the "Blue and Gold" name in their fandom, as seen here in Justice League International And sure enough, that, in turn, led to the coining of the term "Blue and Gold" in the letter column of Justice League America 29, to discuss a miniseries that sadly never came about Page 2: When did the name debut in Booster Gold: Blue and Gold comics? Blue Beetle and Booster Gold Almost Broke Time (Again) | CBR Mangual, on sale now. Ever since Keith Giffen and J. The wacky pair share a fondness for practical jokes and fun-filled hijinks, taking their antics a little too far on occasion. On their latest misadventure in DC Cybernetic SummerBeetle and Gold went further than ever before, possibly threatening the very fabric of reality. After foiling a bank robbery by a group of robotic mercenaries, Beetle and Gold decide to take a relaxing day for themselves. The heroes head for the beach, looking forward to some fun in the sun. Unfortunately, the duo find the beach to be far too crowded, with no room to enjoy themselves. Despite the protest of Skeets, Booster's AI companion, the pair use Booster's time sphere Booster Gold: Blue and Gold travel one year in the past, when the beach was empty and relaxing. This complication is comedically compounded repeatedly by the arrival of four more pairs of Blue Beetles and Booster Golds: One from 10 years in the future, another from 20 years in the future, a pair from a dystopian future and an elderly Beetle and Gold. Each of these future duos arrives with a future Skeets, who is always alarmed by the potential time paradoxes occurring. These photos are even made into calendars as souvenirs for the time travelers. Although this tale is fairly lighthearted, Skeets' repeated warnings indicate that potential, reality-threatening time paradoxes are occurring. Given DC's Booster Gold: Blue and Gold history and plethora of storiesthe rules of time travel are fairly loose -- yet some of DC's time travel theories illustrate the dangerous consequences of Beetle and Gold's actions. The theory of "chaotic time," for example, states that even the smallest changes to the timeline can have catastrophic consequences on future events. Additionally, there is the idea of "hypertime," where events that occur in one timeline have a ripple effect on divergent timelines, from the smallest details to the most significant events. Defeating King Shark, who swears revenge, could mean the King Sharks of multiple universes enact revenge on multiple versions of Blue Beetle Booster Gold: Blue and Gold Booster Gold. Indeed, Skeets dramatically notes how King Shark did get his revenge, but omits the full tale for another time. Booster Gold: Blue and Gold are still a couple of time travel theories in the DC Universe which indicate the events of this story won't have immensely catastrophic consequences. Some stories say the timeline is fixed, meaning it's inevitable for multiple versions of Beetle and Gold to meet on this specific day. Still, there is a dark fatalism to the theory, considering the dystopian versions of Beetle and Gold can tell that events are unfolding just Booster Gold: Blue and Gold they once experienced them. This ominous incarnation of the heroes spells inevitable catastrophe, noting the danger of this specific day at the beach. Beetle and Gold could also simply be traveling to an alternate universe's past, rather than the past of their own timeline. Even so, the duo and their counterparts are interfering with the history of another universewhich could have dangerous consequences regardless. Interfering with history and encountering several of their counterparts has considerably greater ramifications than stealing Martian Manhunter's choco cookies. Booster, on the other hand, was specifically designed to be a Booster Gold: Blue and Gold superhero, and thus, in his early issues, he tended to have less interactions with DC superheroes, although he had a prominent Superman meeting early Booster Gold: Blue and Gold that was also likely the debut of the Post-Crisis Superman Booster Gold Unsurprisingly, the League did not take kindly to Lord adding a member to their team without their permission, and Booster decided to leave rather than Booster Gold: Blue and Gold a scene. However, on his way out, the League's headquarters was attacked by the Royal Flush Gang. Batman decided to use the headquarters' security measures to put a force field around the place, so that they could see how Booster would handle them. He did well The rest of the League had to work together to bring it down and Beetle and Booster worked together for the first time And the League agreed to add Booster to the team of course, Max still managed to piss them off by revealing the news to the public before they could even do it themselves His writing has been featured at ESPN. • Myth, Metatext, Continuity and Cataclysm in Dc Comics’ Crisis on Infinite Earths
WORLDS WILL LIVE, WORLDS WILL DIE: MYTH, METATEXT, CONTINUITY AND CATACLYSM IN DC COMICS’ CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS Adam C. Murdough A Thesis Submitted to the Graduate College of Bowling Green State University in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of MASTER OF ARTS August 2006 Committee: Angela Nelson, Advisor Marilyn Motz Jeremy Wallach ii ABSTRACT Angela Nelson, Advisor In 1985-86, DC Comics launched an extensive campaign to revamp and revise its most important superhero characters for a new era. In many cases, this involved streamlining, retouching, or completely overhauling the characters’ fictional back-stories, while similarly renovating the shared fictional context in which their adventures take place, “the DC Universe.” To accomplish this act of revisionist history, DC resorted to a text-based performative gesture, Crisis on Infinite Earths. This thesis analyzes the impact of this singular text and the phenomena it inspired on the comic-book industry and the DC Comics fan community. The first chapter explains the nature and importance of the convention of “continuity” (i.e., intertextual diegetic storytelling, unfolding progressively over time) in superhero comics, identifying superhero fans’ attachment to continuity as a source of reading pleasure and cultural expressivity as the key factor informing the creation of the Crisis on Infinite Earths text. The second chapter consists of an eschatological reading of the text itself, in which it is argued that Crisis on Infinite Earths combines self-reflexive metafiction with the ideologically inflected symbolic language of apocalypse myth to provide DC Comics fans with a textual "rite of transition," to win their acceptance for DC’s mid-1980s project of self- rehistoricization and renewal.

Blue Beetle's Adventures in the New 52By Walter Gabrielsen IIIThis is the collected volume of Blue Beetle's (Jaime Reyes) big adventures in the new 52 comics (issues 7 to 16, and also the special issue 0 -- which tells the backstory of the scarab). You get the same number of pages as in the individual issues but all together at once, and there are several story arcs here to read though, about 1 per issue. On the first page of each story is a caption title as if it were a TV episode. The art is sharp, clear, and detailed for most of the book, except I notice that the first page of issue 0 is slightly blocky and pixelated. Fortunately it's mostly minor and just for 1 page, and it's mostly a splash page, so you can squint to help hide the blockiness and enjoy the scene (the captions aren't blocky).I've another art comment about the tacked-on story, at the end of the book, that leads into the Threshold adventure.

COSTUME CULTURE: VISUAL RHETORIC, ICONOGRAPHY, AND TOKENISM IN COMIC BOOKS A Dissertation by MICHAEL G. BAKER Submitted to the Office of Graduate Studies Texas A&M University-Commerce in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the degree of DOCTOR OF PHILOSOPHY May 2017 COSTUME CULTURE: VISUAL RHETORIC, ICONOGRAPHY, AND TOKENISM IN COMIC BOOKS A Dissertation by MICHAEL G. BAKER Submitted to: Advisor: Christopher Gonzalez Committee: Tabetha Adkins Donna Dunbar-Odom Mike Odom Head of Department: M. Hunter Hayes Dean of the College: Salvatore Attardo Interim Dean of Graduate Studies: Mary Beth Sampson iii Copyright © 2017 Michael G. Baker iv ABSTRACT COSTUME CULTURE: VISUAL RHETORIC, ICONOGRAPHY, AND TOKENISM IN COMIC BOOKS Michael G. Baker, PhD Texas A&M University-Commerce, 2017 Advisor: Christopher Gonzalez, PhD Superhero comic books provide a unique perspective on marginalized characters not only as objects of literary study, but also as opportunities for rhetorical analysis. There are representations of race, gender, sexuality, and identity in the costuming of superheroes that impact how the audience perceives the characters. Because of the association between iconography and identity, the superhero costume becomes linked with the superhero persona (for example the Superman “S” logo is a stand-in for the character). However, when iconography is affected by issues of tokenism, the rhetorical message associated with the symbol becomes more difficult to decode. Since comic books are sales-oriented and have a plethora of tie-in merchandise, the iconography in these symbols has commodified implications for those who choose to interact with them. When consumers costume themselves with the visual rhetoric associated with comic superheroes, the wearers engage in a rhetorical discussion where they perpetuate whatever message the audience places on that image.
