Responsible Investment
RESPONSIBLE INVESTMENT VOTING AND ENGAGEMENT QUARTER 4, 2020 RESPONSIBLE INVESTMENT AT QUILTER CHEVIOT INTRODUCTION This is our quarter four 2020 report outlining Quilter Cheviot’s engagement and voting activity with the companies we invest in. Our client base is a mix of private client portfolios, small pension funds, trusts and charities; as a result we have a long tail of small holdings which represent legacy and cherished positions. It would be impractical to vote on all our equity and investment trust positions and therefore we have chosen to focus on our largest and most widely held positions where we can have the most influence. Given the nature of our predominantly UK client base, these are UK-listed equities and investment trusts. From the beginning of 2020 we expanded the voting universe to include companies listed in the UK where we own more than 0.2% or £2 million on behalf of discretionary clients. This means that our voting universe has more than doubled. Where clients wish to vote their holdings in a specific way we do so on a reasonable endeavours basis; this applies whether the investment is in the core universe or not, and also to overseas holdings. We ensured that six clients were able to instruct their votes over the last quarter. We use the ISS proxy voting service in order to inform our decision making, however we will not automatically implement its recommendations. When we meet a company to discuss governance issues the research analyst does so alongside the responsible investment team as we are committed to ensuring that responsible investment operates within our investment process rather than apart from it. -

Waymo rolls out autonomous vans without human drivers 7 November 2017, by Tom Krisher get drowsy, distracted or drunk. Google has long stated its intent to skip driver- assist systems and go directly to fully autonomous driving. The Waymo employee in the back seat won't be able to steer the minivan, but like all passengers, will be able to press a button to bring the van safely to a stop if necessary, Waymo said. Within a "few months," the fully autonomous vans will begin carrying volunteer passengers who are now taking part in a Phoenix-area test that includes use of backup drivers. A Hierarchical Control System for Autonomous Driving Towards Urban Challenges
applied sciences Article A Hierarchical Control System for Autonomous Driving towards Urban Challenges Nam Dinh Van , Muhammad Sualeh , Dohyeong Kim and Gon-Woo Kim *,† Intelligent Robotics Laboratory, Department of Control and Robot Engineering, Chungbuk National University, Cheongju-si 28644, Korea; [email protected] (N.D.V.); [email protected] (M.S.); [email protected] (D.K.) * Correspondence: [email protected] † Current Address: Chungdae-ro 1, Seowon-Gu, Cheongju, Chungbuk 28644, Korea. Received: 23 April 2020; Accepted: 18 May 2020; Published: 20 May 2020 Abstract: In recent years, the self-driving car technologies have been developed with many successful stories in both academia and industry. The challenge for autonomous vehicles is the requirement of operating accurately and robustly in the urban environment. This paper focuses on how to efficiently solve the hierarchical control system of a self-driving car into practice. This technique is composed of decision making, local path planning and control. An ego vehicle is navigated by global path planning with the aid of a High Definition map. Firstly, we propose the decision making for motion planning by applying a two-stage Finite State Machine to manipulate mission planning and control states. Furthermore, we implement a real-time hybrid A* algorithm with an occupancy grid map to find an efficient route for obstacle avoidance. Secondly, the local path planning is conducted to generate a safe and comfortable trajectory in unstructured scenarios. Herein, we solve an optimization problem with nonlinear constraints to optimize the sum of jerks for a smooth drive. In addition, controllers are designed by using the pure pursuit algorithm and the scheduled feedforward PI controller for lateral and longitudinal direction, respectively. -
2021 Book News Welcome to Our 2021 Book News
2021 Book News Welcome to our 2021 Book News. As we come towards the end of a very strange year we hope that you’ve managed to get this far relatively unscathed. It’s been a very challenging time for us all and we’re just relieved that, so far, we’re mostly all in one piece. While we were closed over lockdown, Mark took on the challenge of digitalising some of Venture’s back catalogue producing over 20 downloadable books of some of our most popular titles. Thanks to the kind donations of our customers we managed to raise over £3000 for The Christie which was then matched pound for pound by a very good friend taking the total to almost £7000. There is still time to donate and download these books, just click on the downloads page on our website for the full list. We’re still operating with reduced numbers in the building at any one time. We’ve re-organised our schedules for packers and office staff to enable us to get orders out as fast as we can, but we’re also relying on carriers and suppliers. Many of the publishers whose titles we stock are small societies or one-man operations so please be aware of the longer lead times when placing orders for Christmas presents. The last posting dates for Christmas are listed on page 63 along with all the updates in light of the current Covid situation and also the impending Brexit deadline. In particular, please note the change to our order and payment processing which was introduced on 1st July 2020. -
