She began her career writing short contemporary novels under the pseudonym Steffie Hall, but gained notoriety for authoring a series of contemporary mysteries featuring Stephanie Plum, a former lingerie buyer from Trenton, New Jersey, who becomes a bounty hunter to make ends meet after losing her job. The novels in this series have been on the New York Times, USA, Wall Street Journal and Amazon bestseller lists. Evanovich had her last seventeen plum debut on #1 on the NY Times bestseller list and 11 of them hit #1 on the US Today bestseller list. It has more than two hundred million books in print worldwide and has been translated into more than 40 languages. In his early years, Evanovich was a second-generation American born in the South River, New Jersey, as a machinist and housewife. After attending South River High School, she became the first in her family to go to college when she enrolled at Douglas College, part of Rutgers University, to study art. In the thirties she began to write novels. To learn the art of writing dialogue, Evanovich took acting improv lessons. For ten years she tried to write the Great American Novel, finishing three manuscripts that she could not sell. After someone suggested she try to write novels, Evanovich read a few romances and found that she liked the genre. She wrote two novels and submitted them for publication. Still unable to find a publisher, Evanovich stopped writing and signed a contract with an interim employment agency. A few months after starting work on them, she received an offer to buy her second manuscript of the novel for $2,000, which she considered a startling sum. The novel, Hero in General, was published in 1987 in the category Second Love Chance under the pseudonym Steffi Hall. The following year she started writing for Bantam Loveswept under her own name. For the next five years she continued to write romances category for Loveswept. Her work in the genre of the novel helped her to learn to create cute characters and attractive leading men. At this time, Evanovich also became known for the humor that filled her novels. She believes that it is very important to take a comic approach. If we can laugh at something, we may face it. After the end of her twelfth novel, however, realized that she was more interested in writing a sequence of actions in her novels than a sex scene. Her editors weren't interested in her changing hearts, so Evanovich took the next eighteen months to formulate a plan for what she actually wanted to write. Stephanie Plum Series She quickly decided that she wanted to write romantic adventure novels. She wanted to incorporate humor, romance and adventure into her work, and this fits into her style of the mysterious novel. Unlike the style of novels, her books will be told in the first person. Her new type of writing should contain heroes and heroines, as well as a sense of family and community. In this vein, she intended her new style of writing to be based on the model of a television sitcom. Like Seinfeld, her new books will have a central character that the rest of the cast revolve around. Inspired by Robert De Niro's film Midnight Run, Evanovich decided that her heroine would be a bounty hunter. This occupation gave more freedom to Evanovich as a writer, as bounty hunters do not have a set working schedule and are not forced to wear uniforms. The profession is also romanticized to some extent. To get to know the demands of his career, Evanovich spent a lot of time spying on bond law enforcement agents. She also explored more about the city of Trenton, where she wanted her books to be installed. In 1994, she published the first romantic adventure One for the Money. It was the first of a light-hearted series of mysteries starring barely competent bounty hunter Stephanie Plum. One for the money was named The New York Times Notable Book, Publishers Weekly's Best Book of 1994 and USA Today's Best Bet. The sixth book in the series, The Hot Six, was the first of her novels to reach number one on the New York Times bestseller list. Her subsequent novels Plum each debuted at number one. All About Romance described her as a rare breed of romance author who left the genre and yet hasn't alienated her many romance fans. The novels of Plum have taken many attributes from Evanovich's own life. Evanovich shares a lot in common with his heroine Stephanie Plum. Both from New Jersey, both devoured by Cheetos, both owned a hismom, and both shared similar embarrassing experiences. The character Grandma Mazur is based on Evanovich's Grandma Fanny and Aunt Lena. Evanovich claims to be the spirit of the elderly lady who I want to be when I grow up. Shortly before One for the Money was released, Evanovich sold the rights to the Columbia TriStar film for $1 million. Lions Gate Entertainment released One for the Money on January 27, 2012. The film stars Katherine Heigl as Stephanie Plum, Sherry Shepard in The View Lula, Debbie Reynolds as Mazur's grandmother, Jason O'Mara as Joe Morelli and Daniel Sunjat as Ranger. The film's director Julie Ann Robinson. Her latest novel, Fortuna and Glory: The Tantalization of Twenty-Seven, will be released on November 3, 2020. In 2016, Knight and Moon Evanovich released the first book Curious Minds in her new series Knight and moon. Co-authored by Phoef Sutton, the book introduces two new characters, Emerson Knight and Riley Moon. Emerson Knight is a rich, eccentric introvert with little or no sense of social etiquette. It is also brilliant and beautiful. Riley Moon is a recent graduate of Harvard University and Harvard Business. Her aggressive attitude to the Texas spitfire helped her land her dream job as a junior analyst at Blaine Grunwald, where Emerson is a client. Together, this unlikely duo finds itself thrust into solving the most difficult mysteries. Dangerous Minds, the second book in the series, was written by Evanovich and released in June 2017. Angry series In 2010 Evanovich published Wicked Appetite, spinning away Diesel's character from between plum book numbers. The heroine of Wicked Appetite is sweet cupcake baker Lizzie Tucker, who, unlike Stephanie Plum, can cook. Wicked is based in Salem, Massachusetts. In the series, Diesel and Lizzie seek seven stones of power, each of which is another deadly sin. Lizzie and Diesel are Unmentionables, people with extra powers. Their rivals for the stones are Diesel's dark cousin, Gerwulf Wolf Grimoire, introduced to the plum Spooky and his medieval minion Hatchet. Lizzie's animal companions are one-eyed Cat 7143 and Carl the Monkey from Fearless Fourteen and Plum Creepy. Her friends include Glo, Doubtful, and Clara Dazzle, Unmentionable, who lost her powers after Congress with another Inemmable. In Wicked Appetite, Stone sought that embodiment of the sin of gluttony. In 2012, Evanovich published Wicked Business, the second in the series. In Wicked Business, Stone embodies the sin of lust. A new villain is introduced, deranged candy heiress Deirdre Early, or Anarchy. Lizzie, through selfless deed and exchange of body fluids with Wolfe, turns the stone of lust into the wicked stone of true love, implying that under the right circumstances the stones of sin can be transformed into stones of virtue. In 2015, Evanovich teamed up with Fof Sutton for a third novel in the series, Wicked Charms. Greed is the focus of this installment. In June 2013, Evanovich published the novel Pros and Cons and the novel Robbery, the first two works in the new series are written in collaboration with Lee Goldberg. Since then, the series has grown to five novels (The Heist, The Chase, The Job, The Scam and The Pursuit), two short stories (Plus and Cons and Shell Game) and one story, Caper. The protagonist of FBI Special Agent Kate O'Hara, who dedicated his career to swiped one of the FBI's most wanted crooks and master thieves, Nick Fox. That is until the FBI pairs Kate with the most unlikely person, Nick Fox, to shoot the criminals. Together they travel around the world of skirting boards on the edge of what is legal and illegal. Kate's father, Jake O'Hara, a retired SPECIAL Forces operative, often helps in their search. In June 2016, the fifth novel in the series The Chase was released. Evanovich's other novels began a collaborative effort with Charlotte Hughes because she wanted to see some of her other ideas on paper, but didn't have time to write them. This led to the series Full. The series Full is set in Beaumont, North Carolina, and includes Jamie Swift and Maximilian Holt, who meet in the second book Full , Full Tilt. Elsie Hawkins's novels are a lonely romance with the supporting heroine Elsie Hawkins, who is a pensioner with a tough gray curl, who does not accept the audacity of anyone. Elsie drives a 1957 powder blue Cadillac that never seems to withstand the damage. In Stephanie's plum series, Grandma Mazur and Stephanie run Sandor's 1953 Powder Blue Buick, which has a similar indestructibility.

For Carolyn Reidy A remarkable lady who was always a champion for me and Stephanie. CHAPTER ONE My name is Stephanie Plum and I’m a fugitive apprehension agent in Trenton, New Jersey. I’m not especially brave, so you would think I’d pretty much stay out of trouble. Unfortunately, I occasionally ignore the obvious signs of danger and stumble into something ugly with the potential for disaster. This was one of those times. I was in a tunnel under a strip club, and I was with my coworker, Lula. “This is a bad idea,” Lula said to me. “My nipples are all shrunk up and trying to hide inside my body. It’s like what men’s gonads do when someone comes at them with a butcher knife. Those suckers abandon ship and there’s nothing left but an empty nut sack. Not that I know rsthand. I’m just sayin’ what I hear.” Aside from being a bounty hunter, I think I’m pretty normal. I have shoulder-length curly brown hair that’s usually pulled back into a ponytail, blue eyes from my mother’s Hungarian ancestors, and a bunch of rude hand gestures from my father’s Italian side of the family.

  • The Girl Instinct a Post Feminist Look at the Relationship
Hugvísindasvið The Girl Instinct A Post Feminist Look at the Relationship Between Foil and Hero in the Plum Novels by Janet Evanovich B.A. Essay Gunnhildur Eva Arnoddsdóttir May 2012 University of Iceland School of Humanities Department of English The Girl Instinct A Post Feminist Look at the Relationship Between Foil and Hero in the Plum Novels by Janet Evanovich B.A. Essay Gunnhildur Eva Arnoddsdóttir Kt.: 190180-4419 Supervisor: Dr. Anna Heiða Pálsdóttir May 2012 Summary This essay explores, from a post feminist perspective, the relationship between the main character and the sidekick in three novels, by Janet Evanovich, which belong to the genre of chick lit: One for the Money ( 1994), Hard Eight (2003) and Smokin’ Seventeen (2011). A chick lit novel is post feminist literature aimed at female readers in their 20s and 30s. These novels generally follow a similar theme of love, friendship, career, sex and consumerism; however they also deal with the more serious issues of the ongoing quest for equality and the female working environment. In the post feminist era of today women are fighting for what is important to them, their rights to choose how to live their lives, if and when to have a family and which career they would like to pursue. The three novels are part of the Plum Series, eighteen novels about Stephanie Plum and her life as a female bounty hunter. She befriends a former prostitute, Lula, who becomes her sidekick. I look at this relationship between the women, as it is the typical one of protagonist and sidekick: they are opposites.
