THE APRILIA SUCCESS STORY BORN INTO RACING With 294 Grand Prix races won in Road Racing World Championship, Aprilia holds the record for the most wins of any European manufacturer in the history of maximum motorcycle competition. These are joined by an impressive 54 world titles: 38 in Road Racing World Championship (20 in 125 and 18 in 250), 7 in Superbike (Rider and Manufacturer double win in 2010, 2012 and 2014, manufacturers in 2013) and 9 in Off Road disciplines (7 in Supermoto and 2 in Trial). In December 2004 Aprilia becomes part of the Piaggio Group which, with the reorganisation of the Noale Racing Division, takes the Veneto-based brand to victories in World Championship Motorcycle Racing and broadens the horizons of sport activity: from the return to the off road discipline, world rally to the début – in 2009 – of the Aprilia RSV4 in World Superbike. During the same period Aprilia has also accumulated 28 World Titles and a countless collection of European and national titles. But there are important changes in the schedule for the WSBK race meetings this year: Superpole qualifying is on Saturday morning and race one early in the afternoon. Race two is on Sunday. Chaz Davies and Davide Giugliano are in the Aruba.it Racing team on Ducati 1199 Panigale R. Xavi Forés is in the Barni Racing Team; Fabio Menghi is also to ride a Ducati; and in Australia Mike Jones rides a Duc with a wildcard. Matteo Baiocco joins the VFT Team from Thailand. Main competition is to be expected from champ Jonathan Rea and Tom Sykes on Kawasaki; Michael van der Mark and Nicky Hayden on Honda; Sylvain Guintoli and Alex Lowes on Yamaha; Alex de Angelis and Lorenzo Savadori are on Aprilia and Leon Camier on MV Agusta. The season starts at Philip Island at the end of February, where the Aruba Ducati riders qualify well, in 2nd and 9th, and in race one join the lead group. Chaz Davies takes a second place, and in race two has a chance of victory, but slips off on the final lap. He still finishes the race in 10th place. David Giugliano takes to the podium in 2nd, after missing the podium in race one by 0,6 seconds. Jonathan Rea takes the double victory and Michael van der Mark is on the podium twice: 3rd and 2nd. In Thailand Davies takes 3rd place in race 2, and in Aragon, Spain, he takes a double victory.

Superbike, doppio Laverty in Turchia | 1 Eugene Laverty e la sua Aprilia portano a casa una prestigiosa doppietta sul nuovo circuito di Istanbul. Il suo compagno Sylvain Guintoli agguanta un quarto e terzo posto mentre il leader di classifica Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) sale sul terzo gradino del podio in gara 1 migliorandosi di un piazzamento in gara 2. Buona anche la prestazione di Marco Melandri (BMW Motorrad GoldBet SBK) grazie al secondo posto di gara 1 e al quarto di gara 2. Resta molto corta e incerta la classifica generale, che vede al comando sempre l’inglese della Kawasaki, che consolida un pochino la sua leadership, con 323 punti, sette in più di Guintoli, a quota 315, mentre risale prepotentemente Laverty, che grazie alla doppietta di Istanbul sale a 297 punti. Resta in corsa anche Marco Melandri, distante 33 punti dal leader, quando mancano ancora sei gare al termine della stagione, con 150 punti ancora in palio. Le soluzioni Superbike e Supersport che Pirelli ha progettato per affrontare l’Intercity Istanbul Park hanno centrato l’obiettivo prefissato: in entrambe le classi infatti i piloti hanno completato le gare senza problemi grazie anche alla costanza di prestazioni dimostrata dagli pneumatici Pirelli. Le condizioni del circuito e quelle metereologiche non hanno sicuramente facilitato le cose: la pista completamente sporca nella giornata di venerdì e le prove del sabato caratterizzate dall’acqua non hanno infatti permesso a team e piloti di effettuare long run con le nuove soluzioni portate da Pirelli costringendoli a scendere in griglia oggi con l’incognita gomme.
